clrj3514
unfortunately tv makes people do stupid stuff to get something on film. and i'm sure he(levi) was completely confident on the show the week before when he missed about 5 times on that antelope and then winged a arrow at 70 yards right because as he said it was the last day? So you're just bashing someone else now?
hoosierhunter
Point being your right people are going to do what people are going to do but just b/c Levi is a world record holder(8 i think) doesn't mean he should be flinging the arrows he was on those two shows. I don't even think they should have made the air.

jbeck
my suggestion is to take your money, buy land or a lease then you can dictate what weapon is used on your ground. MO is that I have a friend who never got to experience the rut hunting here in Pa. we got him a x bow and worked with shooting it, he took his first archery buck last year on my ground. I was so proud, I have gone to a cross bow because I feel it will benifit me in hunting the deer I want to shoot on my ground. my cross bow is still a 30 yard weapon though, little loud to be shooting further than that. redkneck
we should all just hunt with sharpened sticks. +1 I really need to drop a few pounds and that would help a lot. Not too sharp though, keep it fair for the deer. Shoud also be limits on stick length. Let's not wear loincloths though. :poke:
backwoodsbowhunter
im noone to say whos doing what wrong and whos doing it right, but 80yds is gettin out there and not only does it DOUBLE what could go wrong but that takes all the fun out of a bow hunt i believe. I hunt with a compound and love it i use it in gun because the action is closer and to me is a better hunt, but if someones going to pick up a bow (xbow or compound) and try at that range to me takes all of the fun out of the hunt thats my opinion. hunter109
hey i dont think it matters what you shoot and if you cant find any land to hunt on sounds like there are alot of guys hunting around you man just go some where else to hunt if you dont like all the hunters all over the country the hunters are growing in numbers most might only hunt a few times but that is there choice well i hunted with a xbow for a while but i never shot anything that far maybe 20 or 30 yards and that is it i switched to a compound and i was practiceing at 70 but i was just shooting i never shoot that far at anything inless i have my slug gun or muzzle loader well i think every one has there own distance tey like to shoot if they wound and kill the thing at that distance it is all on them i mean i might take a 40 yard shot but that dont happen that often maybe once thats it that is my max distance to shoot well for xbows they are legel here in ohio and they dont bother me inless they are some where they are not aloud to hunt i run atleast 3 or 4 guys off every year but i think that is going to stop got the cops on our side well latter
huntinsonovagun
my suggestion is to take your money, buy land or a lease I'm working on it. Again, it's not the actual weapon I'm opposed to....it's the 'general' type of person using it (I mean the guy that doesn't want to practice/put a lot of effort into the actual pursuit.....and I'm NOT saying all CB hunters are lazy). If I can put forth the effort to shoot and scout all year round to kill a deer with a compound, I feel most others can put forth the same amount of effort. Sure, the deer may be smarter during archery season now, I may have to work a little harder than I usually do, and we may even have more 1.5 yr old bucks shot than usual, but I will kill deer on public land with my bow, like always. I will outhunt the CB hunters....I guess I'm just a little frustrated that its going to be like gun season for 3.5 months instead of the usual 2 weeks (minus the noise). Anyone who has hunted public land around here knows what I'm talking about. Guess since its not illegal I shouldn't complain....
johnf
There are idiots on any weapon. I did a permit only hunt that you had to shoot and qualify for. All you had to do was keep 3 arrows in a row in the vitals at 18 yards. I was amazed how many people missed the whole dang deer. They knew 6 months ahead that they had to do it. I had been shooting for 4 months at the time and couldn't believe the lack of preparation so people had. You also have the people who belive they are shooting some sort of SUPERDUPERMAG that they can hit the deer anywhere and it will drop in it's tracks. We can only control ourselves and our own ethics. We can however remind people of them.
johnf
I agree Ryan. The one thing im not liking about this new law is now the dynamics of bow season will change. For years its always been teh dedicated bow hunters that have the most peaceful hunting. ML'er rolls around and it gets busier. Rifle Rolls around and the woods are NUTS. I think now that Oklahoma's bow season is point and click it may be a little more crazy.... only time will tell. I don't think it will change much Jeramie. Xbow has been legeal in AR for years and it hasn't significantly chanted anything. I think the percentage of deer killed with an Xbow is like 2-3% or less of the total deer killed in the state. I think I'm one of many people who start out with the xbow and figure out that the disadvantages are outweighed by the advantages and switch to compound. In 7 years shooting the X I killed 1 deer with it. I switched to compound last year and killed 3. I'm sticking with what works.
jbeck
So why did you go to a x-bow? I'm into trying new things, I like the idea of being able to be more mobile in the rut, good camo and set up on the ground where ever the sign shows me to. Heck I tried a flintlock muzzle loader but that thing is crazy. LOL I've taken over 40 white tail with a bow, never shot one with the X bow yet. I'm hoping to change that this year. Rhino
I dare say there are just as many uneducated bubba hunters carrying a vertical bow out there. Just like anything in life, there's good, and there's bad everywhere. Yep...probably a lot more than you'd think.

struttinhoyt
I think Oklahoma needs a Compound/ Recurve/ Longbow Season that runs Sept 15th-30th:clap: I agree... Some people might actually get a chance at the bucks they get pics of all summer long before they move to the other end of the county.... lol
coondog
I don't mind crossbows in the hands of ethical educated hunters. Problem is and I know of one personaly a coworker. They have the "now I can hunt archery season" since they never learned how to or could shoot a bow. It has opened the door to alot of folks that would have normaly never been in the woods some for the good some for the bad. Way to many people think they can shoot a deer farther than they ever need to try but thats with all season's . I hunt mostly private lands owned by family I do however bow hunt some on public lands and I have friends who all they have to hunt on is public. Some are hunted hard others not so much I am curious to see how many "newbie's" show up not saying that its bad they have just as much right to hunt there just takes away from the solitude of archery season and you have to wonder how safe some of these hunters are ( always a concern)
Doc
It will be interesting to see just how the recent states where crossbows have been jammed into bow seasons will go. I don't think you will see a whole lot of difference in the first bunch of years. Look how long it took for Ohio crossbow shooters to take over the majority position in their bow season. It doesn't happen over night. Doc
jbeck
I have a land owner that live close to me, he practiced with his bow and became quite good at putting arrows where he wanted them on paper. Problem was with deer he got excited and lost at least one buck a year, one year he lost 3. He went to a cross bow and has done great. I'm glad we have a cross bow law, in my area it's saving some deer.
