Heading to Texas

I'm flying down with a friend so we can pack up his things down there because he is moving back to Michigan. He lives/lived in the Austin area. We are flying down on Tuesday, and will be driving back sometime later in the week. Should be a good time, but I am kind of nervous since this will be my first time on a plane :o. Any interesting things we should stop and see on the drive back?

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the HEAT!!

Texas is a sportsman's paradise. You can hunt year round down there. There are quite a few non native species that you can hunt whenever with what ever. Hogs, Axis deer, Sika deer and Fallow deer are quite plentiful in the Hill country many are free roaming if you can find a spot.

Austin is a bit northeast of the Hill country. See if you can plan a hunt while down there with your friend. Nothing like taking fresh meat home :).

I have been to Texas quite a few times and love the place. Yes it is hot, but the hospitality of the Lone Star state will win you over.

Have a safe trip and don't worry about flying.

For in the plane, just remember that your seat will act as a floatation device.:cowboy:

Things to do in Texas. As Adjam5 suggested if you have time and equipment, you could probably pick you up a quick exotic hunt in the hill country pretty easy.

In Austin, if you like the night life, hit 6th Street. You aren't far from San Antonio and the Alamo and the River Walk. In between the two you have the Natural Bridge Caverns and there is also a Cabela's along the way there.

As you are heading back up north, when you pass through Waco, the Texas Ranger (think old west, not baseball) Hall of Fame is right beside IH 35. When you get to Dallas/Fort Worth area you need to take a trip by Jerry's World and see the home of The Dallas Cowboys!!!!

While you are in the area, you might as well get you a taste of some real Barbeque and some Tex-Mex.

Probably more to see and do than what you have time for, but those are a few things that I thought of off the top of my head. And don't worry about those noices you hear while taking off, it will probably be alright.

Thanks guys. Yeah I wish we had the time to get a hunt in, don't think it'll happen though, never really thought about it since this was a spur of the moment type deal, he had someone else going with him but they bailed on him so I offered to go (free plane ride, why not :)). We should be able to get out at least one night in Austin before we head back up. I know he'll probably want to see some of his friends before he leaves, and we have a few friends we went to high school with that live down there, so hopefully we'll get to meet up with them as well.

While you are in the area, you might as well get you a taste of some real Barbeque and some Tex-Mex.
That's a good idea, will definitely have to try some barbecue down there...as for the Tex-Mex, I get enough of that kind of food up here from my mom and aunts...it's in my blood lol :D

And I would like to thank you for the airplane comments as well. I figure the first turbulence or loud noise I'll probably black out for the rest of the ride LOL. Really though I have more of that nervous excited feeling, not really scared, but anxious to give it a whirl...I have enough to keep me busy on the ride, going to load the iPad up with some movies, plus I have a few books on there, and I have my phone for music. I'm looking forward to it.

Well it looks like the trip is canceled for me. His brother had asked if he could go with him. He told me if I wanted to go I could and he would tell his brother, but I figured he has been away for so long that maybe it would be good for them to take this trip together. Oh well, looks like my first plane ride will have to wait :D
