Flight Control and Invector +

So I've been doing some research and testing with some Federal ammo I'm using, on and off since turkey season. I've got a Benelli so that's what I've been working with. However, I've come to believe that a Browning shotgun with an Invector Plus Cyl. sized choke, when shooting Federal Heavyweight with Flight Control loads, would produce an awesome pattern. I mean an extremely uniform but tight pattern that would completely hammer the crap out of a thunder chicken.

....does any one shoot an Invector Plus choke system to weigh in on this or has anyone tried this combo?

I've got an SX2 Winchester with the Invector Plus system. I have some Federal Heavies laying around here somewhere. But I do not have a cylinder choke. I suspect that the open choke might not work well with the Flight Control wad deal. That system depends on the wad staying with the shot column rather than wad petals opening and stripping the wad off. The open choke might tend to cause the wad to peel off prematurely.

Only way to find out is to try, really.

Yes, I agree the flight control wad is designed to stay with the shot column and then peel away in stable fashion. That said, the less you slow down the wad, the longer it will stay with the shot column. I've found in testing with my gun that the more open the choke is the farther the wad travels and the less it's fish-tailing or tumbling through the air. So I figure that the closer the bore is to the outside diameter of the wad, the better it will perform as designed. Federal has told me that at least with my load I've been using, heavyweight 3" 1-5/8 oz 12ga, that 0.740 is the OD of the wad. I was also told in the same correspondence that the more open the choke the better. I believe that the invector plus system bore diameter is 0.740, as well. I don't have an invector plus equiped shotgun to test this though, but that's why I'm thinking what I'm thinking. Sometimes having the mind of an engineer isn't good. You're always thinking about everything .... a lot.:hammer1::D

I have not shot any flite control shells. I shoot a very tight comp-n-choke tube and was advised not to shoot fed flite control wads through the comp-n-choke as this choke is designed to catch the wad and hold it for a portion of a second to keep it from messing up the pattern. Infact the gent I spoke with at comp-n-choke said that any choke designed like the comp-n-choke to retard the wad will not work with with those federal wads.
