Grady269
I am going to buy a .45 Government Model with 4" slide. Have never owned one before my other rhandguns are Glock, Beretta, and revolvers. I was kind of leaning toward the Kimber Pro Carry. Any recommendations the must have is AMBI safety because I am a Lefty. They seem to be like AR's everbody makes one now. I liked the Kimber but just wanted any feedback you guys may have. m gardner
I'm not too sure but I believe that most of the model 1911 "STYLE" pistols that have 4 inch or shorter barrels have barrel systems that incorporate a bull barrel with no bushing or a cone barrel. If you want a true 1911 with the bushing you'll need to shop around. I think SIG and Colt may be the only ones making them. As the barrel gets shorter reliability is a problem so most 1911's have the 5 inch barrel like John Browning first used. I have a Kimber Ultracarry and it is very accurate but not terribly reliable. The Springfield Mil-Spec just never quits, just like it was designed. Mark
bowana
If you already have a Glock, why are you wanting to downgrade???? Don.......you are kidding? Glock is a great design and one of the best tactical guns (I have a tricked out model 33 w/ glockwoks quick reset trigger and a custom KKM barrel), but it does not hold a candle to my Wilson Combat or Smith 1911 PD. This old MP will tell you that this 100 year+ design utilizing the 185 gr+P round is the best of the best.....and the Kimber is a good one.......although the Smith with the scandium frame is one of the very best carry guns available. Although I have had several 1911 pistols built, I have to say that the Wilson Combat and Ed Brown line of 1911's are the very best of the best. MY CQB JUST RULES!!:toot:
HuntinGuy101
One up to Muzzy 1. I have the same 45 and enjoy it lots. The only part I do not like about it are the peer black sites. In the future I will purchase dot redicle sites for it but for now being, have no other complaints about the gun. HuntinGuy101
Strut10
Don.......you are kidding? Actually................... no. Serious. I'm no fan of the 1911 platform. Never have been. No pox on it., really. Just a bit too heavy, clunky and clumsy for my taste. And, generally chambered in the .45 ACP, which (gasp!!) I'm not too crazy about, either. Someday I will own a Delta Elite 10mm. But I can't think it'd ever replace my G29 Plastic Fantastic as a carry piece. That being said.................I played around with my cousin's Kimber Ultra CDP II for a good long while one day. It was a nice piece of shootin' iron. Just not my bag.,
Orion_70
I'd say check out Sig, they just can't be beat. I've got glocks, rugers, taurus, s&w, colt, browning, etc that I love to shoot and are good guns.. if my life is depending on it, the Sig is the one I want in my hand, bar none. Grady269
Decision made Good or bad and non-refunadable am now the owner of a Sig-P220 .45acp. Shot a couple of clips through it yesterday and cannot say that I have any complaints, thanks for all of the feedback. It is a little bigger frame than I had initially intended to buy but had a better feel for me than the other handguns I looked at and the reliability rating is very high. thanks for the feedback. m gardner
I have a SIG 220 SOA (single action only) and love it. Killed a coyote with it last week while bowhunting. Saw 7 bears but none tried to eat me so I didn't get to try it out on any of them. Killed 2 bucks with the bow one in Utah and one in Colorado. The second one I went back quick to find an item I thought had fallen out of my pack and the gutpile was gone in less than an hour. Gave me a creepy feeling and I was glad to have the 45.
