Doves over Sunflower?

Question....

I got permission to hunt an Amish man's place. I went to check it out last night. He has a few crops but the plots are small. He had about one acre of corn and turned it under three weeks ago. However, right next to the corn patch was a 1-acre standing sunflower field.

There were already doves on the line right there but it was evening and I didnt get to see anything flying. Anyone hunted a sunflower field? There are other decent areas to hunt around there and I would hate to waste my opening morning....

I went to a dove hunt a few years ago with abunch of other guys and the farm we went to had alot of sunflower patches, just a couple acres here and there, with corn and soybean fields everywhere else. There was about 12 guys shooting that day and Id say atleast 9 of us limited out. The only reason everyone didnt limit out was because some of us couldnt hit em :D

Sunflowers are awesome for dove hunting, you should have a decent spot there.

Yep, that's what we hunt over. My buddy plants sunflower in June and mows them off a couple weeks before season. He gave me an update this morning. He saw about 30 to 40 on the wire at his place, which is a low number for his place. They are usually in there by the hundreds come season. Sometimes they show up a little late based on the weather.

I guess I'll just have to go out there Saturday and check for myself. :D
