ChasinTail
I have recently been given permission to hunt a piece of my land I was not expecting to be able to hunt. I know there are lots of deer in there but it is real thick. With only two and a half weeks until season, would I do more damage than good by clearing a few trails to get into this area (very thick). Google Earthing it, I see some open islands and some good looking swamp but there is just no way to get in there without a machete and clippers. I dont want to go in there so close to the season opener sweating and making alot of noise if it is just going to scare everything off for a month! What do you guys think? 92xj
uhhhhh.....better to do it now, than opening morning when you are walking in. If you plan to hunt it, get in now and get some lanes cleared. You dont have to hunt it opening morning or month. Clear now, hunt the rest of the property and when deer activity slows, go into their hiding spot that you cleared lanes for a month prior and hunt. ChasinTail
Good thoughts! I guess I was so excited to get permission to hunt this spot, I just started thinking "must hunt here now"! Think I will go in tomorrow and clear some lanes and not come back till the last few weeks of archery season. May put in a trail cam while Im there too...thanks! redkneck
It's never too late. What else you gonna do wait till next year? lol Like Mike was saying, deer will almost walk out behind your bush-hog checking out new changes. Ethan Givan
I would go in there now and clear my lanes. If the property hasnt seen much human activity in a long time, the deer will be back to normal in a couple weeks. We have taken a tractor and bush hog, pole trimmer, and even chain saws into a spot and cleared out the area and hung a trail cam and have daytime pics of good bucks in a couple weeks. It only becomes a problem when there is alot of disturbance repeatedly.
Orion_70
you will be suprised how quick the deer activity will pick up after you clear your lanes Yep! Get in there now and get the lanes cut. If you cut them, they will walk them. Deer will take the path of least resistance.
wtnhunt
If you cut them, they will walk them. Deer will take the path of least resistance. Yep, they sure will. Been many times I have cleared out trails with the tractor only to come back a few days later to find the fresh earth eat up with tracks.
