bulldawg
Congrats to Elnore and Slash! Good eating for you guys. I had a bone spur removed in my left ankle on Monday, and I just finally got enough strength up to get in here. I haven't been outside since Monday afternoon, and I am more than bored with doing absolutely nothing! It's good to see that everyone else is getting out hunting when they can. I should be able to hunt the T-Zone starting October 14. And believe me, I am looking forward to getting out there! Dawg
elnor
Thanks, Dawg. Wyoming trip update: My dad and I have been doing pretty well, including filling our buck tags with a couple of nice ones and one of our doe tags so far. Best of all we're having a great time! Hope everyone gets a chance to get out into the fall hunting woods (or desert, or plains, or whatever) soon. It feels good to type "fall hunting woods", doesn't it? My Wyoming buck where he fell: This view shows his mass and curl better (we rough scored him 81 1/4, just shy of B&C all time): My dad's: Edited September 25, 2010 by elnor
Jeramie
Congrats Elnor! Did you have a hard time finding hutning land in western Oklahoma? how did that pan out? I saw you filled the tag....

However, a cold front is hitting so I will have to get out. It has been COOL in the mornings. I hope to set on a field Sunday afternoon. I guess Ill have to wait and see what happens.. elnor
Jeramie, I did have to talk to quite a few people and chase various leads before I finally found someone that would let me hunt. Found 3/4 section the day before the season opened, but wouldn't you know it there were two bucks and several does on it and I made the shot just 30 minutes into the first morning's hunt! So it all came together in the end. BTW we tagged out in Wyoming over the weekend, too. I'm back home and processing meat. Next up, muzzleloader whitetails in about three weeks. pointing_dogs_rule
Wyoming Antelope Hunted Wyoming Oct. 1st and filled the tags with a buck and doe. I did not think that the buck was that great, however, everyone compliments the buck on his large bases and cutters. Saw tons of goats. Good luck to all the dog

People out in the west part of the state seemed to be pretty open to letting people hunt. I didnt have any troubles even on the days I was hunting! It was a blast. Too bad its a once in a lifetime hunt....
Jeramie
Went out Sunday Morning! Saw a TON of deer. Had a great morning. It was 38 that morning and really had them moving. I had a spike in range for a very long time and let him walk. Later that morning had a massive 8-point push into the area. He busted me and my brother before getting into range. Too bad! He was a BIG old buck. He wasnt very wide but had a nice rack. Ill be back out this weekend. Hopefully I can make something happen! The cold front is blowing out and we are suppose to warm back up. That stinks but so be it..
elnor
I did have several folks who said they'd be happy to let me hunt, but that they'd already given permission to someone else (in many cases, someone who bought the landowner tags they'd applied for). But it did work out and I agree it's too bad it's once in a lifetime. Who knows, maybe I'll call some of them back up in a future year to see if they'd let me bow hunt after their landowner tag hunters head home. Good luck this coming weekend! pointing_dogs_rule
Possible shooters I haven't seen any of these deer in the daytime. Activity is increasing and hope they will eventually show up. I would like to see them in real-life to see how they actually "size-up". I have not been out yet. Early muzzleloader starts this Saturday and I will hunt with a youth and myself. Hopefully it cools down by then!!! Good luck to all the dog

elnor
My father has picked up some decent bucks on his trailcams, including one that may be a shooter. Hoping to find out in person this weekend when our muzzleloader season opens. Hope everyone is getting some quality time in the woods! dosse
I put a big doe down yesterday afternoon FINALLY. She came in to a soybean field and ended up giving me a 25 yard shot and I put it on her. I will go on and enter her this week to get us a few more points until I hopefully encounter a buck. Good luck to everyone. Stay safe and good hunting

I will put up a new stand on the edge of a cornfield tomorrow and hope for better things to come. good luck to all the dog
Jeramie
Went out this past weekend. Sat until almost dark. Finally had a mature doe come in. Didnt come through my shooting lanes but finally crossed behind me. I drew and shot but shot over her back. After the shot she turned around and came right back to my tree. She walked to the base of the tree and then turned to walk away. I hit the grunt tube and she turned and walked right back. After thinking about it for quite a while im betting it was a button buck. Im actually glad I shot over his back. I never saw another deer with that one either so if I were a gambling man I would bet on button buck. pointing_dogs_rule
6 doe in the new stand on Thursday night. Friday morning 3 bucks and 2 doe. one 5 point, one 8 point, and a very nice 11 point. 11 point was a main frame 9 with 2 kickers & a 17 inch spread (lots of character). He was so pretty, however, I would have to say he was only 3.5 years old. Probably scored in the mid to high 130's. He was at 60 yards which would have been easy for the blackpowder gun, however, another 20 - 30 inches next year will make him a shooter. Will head out tonight to one of my "lesser" stands since we have a bad south wind. good luck to all the dog
