JDAWG
Got out both days over the weekend, however the wind was difficult to manage. Yesterday, I had some jerk in the woods across the creek from me walking through and throwing firecrackers. He's lucky he didn't meet my gold tip! Gonna get out again tomorrow evening. bucknut
Hey guys.. Well i havent done much hunting in the last couple weeks. The weather was pretty warm and I just wasnt seeing much so i worked as much as possible.. Anywho, The upcoming weeks are looking promising, the are calling for snow next week and the temperature is below freezing at night so that should bring up the buck activity...I just setup a ameristep ground blind over some bait with a trail camera 20 away... it looks like a awesome spot so hopefully i can catch a couple bucks from earlier in the summer cruising through...On a side note... A fella from town here shot a freaking monster Mule Deer a couple weeks ago...254 Non typical with a 207 Typical frame... Can you imagine!!! Well good luck in th coming weeks fellas!! Please HELP!:bang:
BamaTrae
Oh no! I hope you find him. I hate it when that happens but it is just gonna happen sometimes. You got a good dog? Let us know how it ends up. I've seen does everytime I go, but haven't had the right situation to shoot. It's either too dark, too far, or too something else. I'll keep at it. Good luck guys. JDAWG
No luck! I searched for 2 days! The blood trail just stopped. I must have circled around for about 1/2 mile. Hopefully, he is still alive. There are a lot of yotes around.
JDAWG
Oh yea! I don't have any dogs but NY has a non profit called deer search. I called them to get them to help. The handler's first question was "Is it a big deer?" When I told him that it was a good six, he said "Oh umm I have another call but I'll call another handler for you." Needless to say, they did not call back. What a load of crap.
mikewink
What is going on team 6? It has been a hard season here so far. Weather has been weird and the corn is still standing. Hopefully this next week will be our week! Good luck!!

BamaTrae
Weather has been tough down here in Bama. We're getting some rain today, but it's been dry. I shot a doe yesterday, but I must have hit her a little forward, and didn't recover her after looking for 4 hours through the woods. Hope to try again Friday. mikewink
Good job Camprags! After a month of hard hunting I finally got my first oppurtunity tonight. Had a doe come in. Hit her broad side and dropped her right where she stood with a Rage 2 blade. I thought she was down for the count. I let her sit, and sent a message to my hunting buddy. I didn't know he had gotten out of the stand early. He came walking in about 10 minutes after I shot. That doe jumped straight up and ran 40 yards and crashed right thru a pile of brush. When I say crashed I mean she sounded like a train going thru that brush pile......I backed out and will go back in the am. Talk about deflating. The good news is there was a big pile of blood where she went down and a good trail to follow too. I will let every one know tomorrow. CampRAGS
mike how did you make out, were you able to find the doe? Hope you did. Bucks here are moving and chasing does pretty good right now. Good going on the doe, look forward to seeing the picture.
MUDRUNNER
Well, I'm back! I managed to shoot an 8 point a few weeks ago and got him entered this morning. He's no giant, but I've been hitting it pretty hard since I've been off and haven't been seeing much movement. I there was a little ground shrinkage, but he's still a decent buck. I seen his right side when I shot, and his right G2 is way longer than his left. Points on the board! I am back working now, but not sure if I can get off for our shotgun season next weekend. bucknut
Just checking in again fellas. Bow and Muzzeloader season has been closed since Halloween, so I am just waiting for the general rifle season to open on the 15th. I have a week off and the forcast is calling for cold temperatures with some snow. I have been seeing a bit of rutting activity, even one with his nose to the ground walking into the wind so its fixing to bust loose pretty soon! Iam going to check my cameras in a few mintues here, so if i have anything worth showing ill post them up once i get home.. Good luck everyone! the Rut is near!!!!!!!! mikewink
Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. Been a long week. I didn't end up finding the doe. I tracked her to where she ran thru the brush pile, she then tore thru an old barbed wire fence. 30 yards later she smashed into an old stump and left a pile of stomach hair. I ended up loosing her after she went into the swamp. I waided in with the dog and my chest waders. After she entered the swamp I lost all sign..:bang: I looked for 3 days. No luck. That is the first deer I've lost. I don't like that. I haven't been back since, I might get out tomorrow. Rifle season starts on Monday. Won't get out till later in the week though. Every one else at work has the whole week off. I'll take muzzlerloader off.
MUDRUNNER
Our shotgun season starts Friday. I usually bow hunt the Thursday before, but with work being so screwed up I'm only able to get off Friday. It's supposed to warm, windy, and a full moon, so I'm not sure how deer movement will be. BamaTrae
Well I've had a tough bow season. Not much to say. We caught a guy putting corn out in a powerline on our place, close enough to a road that he could shoot over it. It was about 200 yds from one of my favorite bow stands. Now I know why I had so many pictures there! I'm giving the bow one more shot this week, Thursday and Friday, then the guns come out on Saturday. I expect the full moon to mess with the deer movement, but we can adjust! Have you guys heard this saying: "if the wind is out of the north then venture forth...if the wind is out of the west then thats the best... if the wind in out of the south then dont go out... if the wind is out of the east then they will move the least" Seems to be true in my experience. How bout you? Edited November 17, 2010 by BamaTrae Font probs
mikewink
Well I made it out tonignt. Finally put one down. This was a doe I had been keeping my eye on. You can see the weird marking on her face. She stuck out like a sore thumb in the woods. Looking at her face afterwards it looks like it may be some kind of scar... Not bad for an hour long hunt. I'll get more time in the stand this weekend. Good luck guys.
mikewink
The weather is starting to change. The bucks were out last night. I was just sitting in the wrong stand....
MUDRUNNER
Well, I managed a big doe Friday morning and a decent buck saturday evening during shotgun season. The bucks another 8, so it's not worth any more points for the team, and I'm only aloud 2 bucks a year. looks like I'll be doe hunting with the muzzleloader. Here's my buck. His right G2 is just under 13" long. Not real wide, but too good of a buck for me to pass up. Movement was really slow over the weekend, so I was pretty happy with the results. He'll make a nice euro mount to add to my collection.
