ruttinbuc
Great looking muley buck, Mandyjo! Way to go. Sorry to hear about your obvious success being denied, Jack. It is what it is. Unfortunately ......

NS whitetail
Well guys, I sorry to let you down. This is only the third time since 1990 that I have come home from deer camp empty handed . I didn't have to though, I let a 4 pointer, a 5 pointer and a spikehorn walk many times. I had my mind and heart set on the great buck that I caught on camera many nights. I hunted hard this season, I spent 18 mornings and 18 afternoons in my stand. Out of all of those times, I only got one day time look at the great buck. At 4:15 pm on Friday Nov. 19th, he walked out behind a doe and I could see him all for 15 minutes or so. The problem was, he was about 500 yards away. I tried rattling and got his attention, but he was more interested in love that day than fighting. I thought about getting down and trying to sneak on him, but the wind was blowing straight down the powerline right at him and I knew that was a waste of time. Most of my friends said " I would have let loose on him ! " I have been hunting for many years and have to much respect for a buck like that to be taking reckless shots at him and end up maybe crippling him. Our season don't close until Dec. 4th, but lobster season opens this coming Monday, so I will be on the ocean instead of in the woods. When I left my stand last evening for the last time this year, I spoke out really loud so he could hear me ... "Thanks for the great hunt, you may have won and out smarted me this year, but God willing, I will be back next season and I will be hunting you again !" Canuck2
Lewis, that buck is certainly worthy of the respect you showed for him. I endorse your 'no long shot' policy 100%. As for the little guys, you know what they say - you can't shoot a big one if you cut your tag on a youngster. Best of luck pursuing lobsters. hoosierhunter
100% you made the right decision. It drives me nuts when people say "I would have shot." I just want to look at them and say Go **** yourself *******! Huge sore topic for me. Good luck with the lobsters as well!!!
ny_gun
Well the NY shotgun season has been open for about a week and a half now... I have shot a couple but no upgrades from my archery 8-point. The season closes (including the muzzle loading season) on 12/21 so I still have a couple weeks to upgrade. hoosierhunter
Well I'm pretty sure mine is wrapped up as well. I will still be keeping tabs and trying to get my wife her first deer as well.
Canuck2
I have no idea what happened here, but I swear I made a post a couple hours ago. I must have pushed the 'vanish' button instead of the 'submit' button. Anyway, this evening I got a doe with archery tackle. This time I was a good boy and got myself, the bow, and the whole deer in the picture. Haven't taken a photo of my tag yet but will do that tomorrow and submit everything then. Yay, more points for the good guys!
hoosierhunter
Congrats and it looks flat out COLD in that picture!
Canuck2
Hoosier, it wasn't bad at the time of the picture - maybe 20 degrees. But it did get a lot colder overnight. Deer and tag pictures now both submitted to the proper authorities.

ny_gun
Congrats Canuck2. I was able to connect with a doe and a big 6 point (I thought he was an 8) over the weekend but unfortunalty no upgrades from my archery 8 point.
hoosierhunter
That is a big 6 for sure. Nice buck and great season for you as well!

Canuck2
That's what I was thinking, too, hoosier. Where are all our teammates at? Still lots of hunting talk to do here - whether it be active or reminiscing. Season here finishes Dec 20, though I'm tagged out with a buck and a doe. Youngest son got a buck, doe, and bear. Eldest son ended up with 3 bucks, since he hunted widely separated management regions here - 2 whitetails and a mule deer. The jerky portion of my doe is soaking in marinade and we'll have that all ready in a few days. Mmmmmm.
ny_gun
The NY season is wrapping up fast... The shotgun season closed on Sunday and the late muzzle loader season closes on 12/21.
hoosierhunter
Well I just can't help myself. I will be bowhunting this weekend just to get back in the woods. I do know that's it's gonna be a long 9 months pretty quick and I gotta take advantage now!
hoosierhunter
Gotta love it as I had two of my shooters confirmed alive this weekend! Both these guys are over 140 inches and I can't wait to see what they blow into next year!!!!
Canuck2
Excellent! Any chance of finding their sheds later?
ny_gun
Well the NY season is now offically over... I passed up a pretty good 8-point last night that I can not wait to see next year. Good luck to everyone that is still hunting.
hoosierhunter
Excellent! Any chance of finding their sheds later? Well hopefully although its a weird property as we have 15 acres that is a complete funnell between two very large tracts of woods and it's the ONLY crossing point. We might get lucky and have them drop their sheds while feeding this winter on the corn. For now I will just settle for some trail cam pics. NS whitetail
Excellent! Any chance of finding their sheds later? I will surely be going to the camp later this winter and hunting the woods over hard for the sheds of the one in the pics I was hoping to get. hoosierhunter
Here's Maverick. I don't think he will go 140 like I thought, but I think 130's is on point. Next year I bet he will get at least 150 though!
hoosierhunter
Here's Goose. I think he will be close to 130 this year. I think he is older than Maverick so I'm not sure how much he will add next year. I'd love him to go 140 but I kinda think he might already be 4.5 and about done. He does have great brows though!
