Muleyman Posted September 6, 2010 Report Share Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) k well yesterday evening we spotted 3 bucks at one of our favourite hunting spots. We watched them bed down in a cooly. So we had to play the wind so we had to go straight north then cross a wheat field. After that the wind was perfecct and the stalk would have been perfect. So we were walkin and we all hit the ground fast because we seen them bedded down. We would move about a yard at a time and wait them to look away for us to move. The stalk took a total of about 1 1/2 hours. I could tell it was starting to get dark so we had to start to speed up, it was goin good, we had the wind in our face. I looked and they were all standing but I had to get going because it was getting late. Anyway we didnt get quite close enough, we got to 65 yards. We were planning on getting after them again early this morning but it rained so we didnt get out. They were calling for 100mm of rain. Its supposed to stop raining this afternoon so we will prolly head out at about 3. But now they are calling for rain on thursday and friday. I have to disagree with bowhunting, I got a doe last night in the drizzle, let her settle for 1/2 hour or so then went to look for blood, was terrable no signs, all I could see was redish watery ting on the wet leaves, luckely i knew were she was and walked in right at dark and had to finish her off with another arrow, first one was bit quartering and took out prob 1 lung, if I would of left her till next morn and she did get up there is no way I would of found her in the rain!!!!!!!!!! I hate bowhunting in the rain, sure its better for stalking and scent controal but if you do get one unless you see were it falls there is a good possabilty it will be coyote feed, I am sitting at home now nearly dieing knowing my 220 inch mulie I have been after for 5 days strait is out there and I am here, but I believe that in the rain if I shoot him there is to big of a chance to loose him so I suck it up and hold till later when the rain stops, hats off to you carson, in my opinion you did the right thing!! I agree with you Bret. Might as well wait until the weather is nice to go after him. Carson is exactly right too...pretty hard to get to some of the best hunting spots when the backroads are muddy.
