Dakota
Anyone shot one and is there a story behind it? Just thought this would be a good thread. Dakota

dogdoc
Got invited by a friend for a goose hunt. We were staked out on a small pond in the middle of a huge wheat field. My buddy and scouted them using the pond after morning feed. Around 11:30 they finally decided to show up. We let a large group land and then decided to take them. Mostly snows with a few Canadas mixed in. I wanted a snow goose to mount so I only aimed at the snows. With my 3rd shot I had white goose veer to my right. the goose dropped and Belle retrieved. After she brought it back i discovered the jewelry. There were lots of snows dropped but I was 100% sure I dropped this one as I was the only one who shot in that area. I went to my buddy and told him I shot a banded snow (or at least thought it was a snow). He has hunted this area for many years and has never shot a banded goose. i told him he could have the bands but I wanted to mount. He of course said "You shot it so it's your bands". Mach1
My brother and I both shot a banded mallard a few years back. They in the 08-09 goose season, they shot two banded geese from the same flock. Also during that season, my brother was scouting cornfields and saw a few geese with neck bands that we hoped to get a shot at but never did. layin on the smackdown
So far the only banded bird i have killed (and not let a customer take) was a double banded goose that had a radio backback on it...Banded in June of 2001 and i killed it in November of 2001...The banding agency (Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation) offered me $500 for the backpack back....I said nope, sorry, its already at the taxidermist... I wonder what the heck they were thinking when they saw that sucker sitting in the same spot for a month and half...This back pack deal has 2 elastic bands: one that stretches around the front top of the gooses breast, and the other that stretches back around it butt, but behind its legs...They are connected by a small 2 inch by 1 inch silver radio transmitter deal. After i shot that bird, and our dog was trying to retrieve it, i could clearly see it was having a hard time mouthing the bird...couldn't figure out why until the dog got back to the blind.... i'll post a pic when my wife gets back from miami with our camera. layin on the smackdown
A few years before that, my dad shot a drake wood duck that had a ring band through its nostril cavities....looked like a regular leg band, but just a tad smaller...Super wierd for sure.
