Saskbuck40
Re: still headgear! Yesterday my dad and i went out for 5 hours and all we found was a whitetail head that was 3-4 years old. When we were driving out of our area, we saw 4 bucks together, all had there antlers. Geez, seems kinda late

Guest LDB
Re: still headgear! CLB and I headed out yesterday to an area I had scouted. All the muley bucks were carrying full racks. We travelled around some other areas and didn't find any deer sheds (CLB picked up a moose shed, but that's a different story). However, we located a group of muley bucks that had a half-rack and a bald buck in their ranks. I also found a group of a dozen bucks that in the morning had 8 carrying full racks and 4 bald and in the evening had 6 carrying full racks, 2 half-racks, and 4 bald. I also saw 2 decent whitetail bucks still carrying full racks, which is unusual because they usually shed about a month before the muleys. I'm probably going to give the area 3 weeks before I go back unless it gets cold. I've noticed something. It seems that the buck groups that are off by themselves shed earlier than the buck groups that are feeding in the same areas as doe groups. Maybe it's a winter survival function that causes bucks to hold their antlers longer when there are does around?
Tominator
Re: still headgear! I've been out searching for about 10 hours so far this year with no finds. I'm guessing there's more than a few deer in my area still wearing antlers, although all the deer I've seen in the past 2 weeks, none of them have had antlers. TreeWalker
Re: still headgear! I've been seeing rubs popping up out of no where in the past month......I suspect it may be do to itchy pedicles before shedding ?!! Or like Tim said....maybe a late shot of testosterone ?? The bucks have been holding on to their headgear here also......we have had no snow to speak of, and temps have been unseasonably warm....often in the 40's and sometimes 50's......... But finally in the last week, I've been seeing in increase in shedding........I went out for the first time this last wednesday and found 7........didn't hit my hotspots yet, cause I want to give them an extra week or so......don't want to bump them out in case they aren't finished shedding yet.......found a nice 5 point, and of course I'm jacked to find one side of the Big-8....... Speaking of that big 4 point shed.....it's ironic that I found one of his sheds last year not 10 feet away from the spot I found his this year.......
