The start of another saga?

Was watching "Just Pass'n Thru" last night on the Sportsman Channel. They showcased a guy in Hawaii hunting hogs. He wasn't using a gun or bow of any sort. He was using a "hunting" sling shot, using arrows.

What say ye........is this a type of bow hunting or no?

BTW- He made a perfect shot on a hog. The arrow penetrated about 8", he recovered the hog a short distance from the stand.

It's kind of hard to bow hunt with out a bow. Dont ya think?

I would not call it bow hunting. More like slingshot hunting with an arrow as a projectile.

JMHO...but the only good hog is a dead hog. I don't really care how they're killed. It doesn't take long on a tractor working food plots to develop that kind of attitude. They can do so much damage it's unbelievable. I'll bet whoever owned the land they were hunting in Hawaii was happy.

I'm with Al, whack 'em and stack 'em. As for your question, I seriously doubt the question will ever get any attention like the crossbow debate, but IMHO the slingshot could not be considered in the archery family due to the fact that it utilized the elasticity of the band rather than arching a bow to achieve it's velocity.

Sounds cool, I'd like to see it done with a scooba-style spear-gun.

The crossbow topic is a dead horse that will be beaten forever.

I've never seen someone use a slingshot and arrows before and thought I would get some input on it. I wouldn't consider it bow hunting either.

I can understand one's dislike on hogs and for them to have the "kill em all, anyway, anyhow" attitude, but what about hunting deer with this method?

I saw that video. It was kind of interesting. I have no doubt that if the device has the killing potential that they portrayed, it will wind up in our so-called bow seasons. Obviously, the definition of a bow has become meaningless, so why not? You might be surprised what all will be stuffed into what used to be bow seasons in the future now that we no longer worry about bow seasons being for bows.

Truth be known...if I could legally hunt hogs with a gun that was full auto & belt fed I would. I hate them that much. They eat 10X what a deer eats, compete for the same food sources, and tear up the very food sources that they and the deer utilize. They are also very aggressive and will displace at least a portion of the deer from an area when they move in. I have hunts ruined every year with deer in view when suddenly they catch wind of hogs and haul out of their. Sometimes it's takes several minutes for the hogs to show up after that. Also the deer don't know the difference in the scent of a small hog and a big one. They all smell the same and the results is always the same when deer wind them.

As for hunting with that weapon for deer, haven't seen the show so I can't comment on what I haven't seen.

I don't remember the show , but , i watched someone last year kill a hog with a pellett gun. dropped him right on the spot . it was one of those 1000 ft/sec jobs.

I saw that one. It was the $700 Gammo rigs. Totally awesome weapons. Would love to have one myself. They were dropping 200lb boars with pellets like there was no tomorrow.
