wtnhunt
On our 2008 durango, dealer called this morning after we dropped it off and said the throttle body needed cleaned at 30,000, we are at 34,000. Have not noticed any issues with performance, but guess these may need cleaned. We took it in for another problem(intermittent wiper issue) and was going to have them change the oil while they had it since we had a coupon for oil change, wipers, and tire rotation for 21.95, pretty good deal since the filter and oil would have cost me at least $17. Anyhoo thinking that the tb cannot be too bad to clean myself, have not honestly looked that closely at it, yet. It has the 5.7 hemi, guessing the tb would have to come off to clean it properly? Wipe the carbon out or is it more involved cleaning process? What about the injectors? If I heard him right for them to do the service we had the coupon for as well as the tb and fuel injectors was going to run over $200. Sooo, any tips for cleaning them Shaun? redkneck
Wow, never heard of anything like that at 30K William. That's not to say it wouldn't be nice to have it cleaned every 30, but come on, can it really be that bad?

Shaun_300
You could clean the TB out William, it's not essential at your mileage but wouldn't hurt. You don't have to take it off to clean it. Take some combustion chamber cleaner and open the blade up and wipe the bore out and the butterfly. While you have the intake pipe off it wouldn't hurt to give the engine a good blast of combustion chamber cleaner while it's running around 2000RPM. It'll get any gunk out of the intake manifold, behind the valves and the tops of the pistons. Just spray for about 20-30 seconds. You could get a bottle of injector cleaner to put in your gas tank. That's the only way to clean them. At work we have a injector flush machine, you put a cleaner into it, pull the fuel pump relay and hook the little tank up to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Compressed air through a regulator set at the vehicle fuel pressure specs pressurizes the tank and your engine runs off the cleaner until it's finished. wtnhunt
Thanks Shaun, will try to check it out this weekend,. Wow, never heard of anything like that at 30K William. That's not to say it wouldn't be nice to have it cleaned every 30, but come on, can it really be that bad? Me either John. Service advisor said it was a dealer suggested service, not a required service. Did say it should increase economy and performance with removing any carbon buildup. Kinda wonder if the dealership is pushing to generate revenue any way they can, their sales side of things looked pretty sad, lot had maybe a fourth the cars and way less salesman than when we bought our durango, but then they are one of the few dodge dealerships left around here. Ravin R10 man
wonder if it's because of the ethanal in the gas..that stuff makes everything a little sticky over time..especially small engines..but you can get stuff to add to the gas to keep that from happening....think Stabil has the stuff I get Think somebody hit it right on the head...just another way to get you in to make money...but then now days these engines cant be diagnosed without a computer to hook into...I remember when you could open the hood and actually SEE the engine!
