Obamacare in my school

Ethan get my attention, "Mr. Hulbert, I accidently stabbed my hand with my pencil".

Showing me his hand, there is a LARGE chuck of pencil in his palm. "Wow, Ethan that's a doosey." I jokingly offer to take it out with a utility knife (Shop teacher humor) and send him to the nurse.

A few minutes later Ethan returns.

I ask, "How's the hand?"

Ethan, "They left it in there"

Me, "WHAT!?"

Ethan, "The nurse said she could not get it out. She told me to go home and soak it, then have my mom take it out."

I was shocked. I've had issues with our so-called nurse in the past but really......

This really bothers me as a parent. Get ready for more of this America.

Rebecca Trent stabbed me with a pencil in the 3rd grade, (1973). I went to the office and Mrs. Mumford (school secretary) slapped a bandaid on it. I never told my mom when I got home. 1985 it started to bother me a little so I went to the corpsman on the ship. He tried a few times to cut it out. He got most of it, but you can still see where that lead was.

Wait until you get a load of what medicare is turning into. My wife's doctor is really upset. She says that the government is hoping all us old folks die soon so they don't need to spend the money to keep us healthy. You get no checkups now unless you want to pay for it. One condition my wife has she sees a doctor for monthly, they just said you'll need to learn to live with it and not to come back. I'm glad I'm still healthy and don't need to see a doctor ever. It doesn't look good for anyone who needs care to live a long comfortable life.

Our oldest broke her arm in 4th grade at school, they never even called us, she stayed at school for 3 hours after it happened.

LOL. Similar story, got stabbed in the leg by a girl in either 3rd or 4th grade, was wearing jeans and did not know it was stuck in there until I went to the bathroom, I never went to the school nurse and never told my parents. Still have the lead in my leg.

Think school nurses are only allowed to call parents here, not take any actions other than giving otc stuff such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen. They do take temps and call and send kids home when they are sick. With the frivolous lawsuit happy world we live in it is no wonder schools do not allow nurses to do anything, heck we have to sign waivers for about anything our kids do, heard on the radio just yesterday that a school closed its playground due to a kid falling and getting hurt, unfreakingbelievable.
