my bad day

it was last tuesday. we were crossing the powder river 30 miles west of gillette, and a half hour from home. when we left alaska 4 days earlier, rilda and i said a prayer that the good lord give us a safe trip home. we'd made it, and were thanking him just as my truck sputtered and slowed down. for the last 20 miles, my top speed was 25 mph. remember, i'm pulling a 38', 15,000 lb camper. so, an hour later i hobble into the chevy dealer, 3 miles short of home. the computer says i need either new injectors ($5,000.) or a new pump ($2,000.) but that i'll probably need both. wow. that's a hard pill to swallow on a truck with 125,000 miules on it.

so, he resets the compututer and said i should be able to make it home slowly, which i did. while unhooking the trailer, i find my jacks are low on battery power. not sure why. so, i told rilda to get out of the truck and get into the shade. in a few seconds, i hear her screaming. all i can think of is that she stepped on a rattlesnake (remember, kaeden got bit last year) and i don't have a cell phone handy. i run over to her side of the truck to find that she'd closed the door on her fingers. in her current position, she doesn't know to simply open the door to ease the pain, and just cries. i open it up, and she's got some sore fingers. I then hook up a battery charger and am able to get the trailer unhooked. well, i'd let the dog out of the truck (about as 15 pound japanese chin) and called him back to get in. as normal for that old thing, he ignores me. so, i drive up to him to pick him up and he runs under the truck and my back wheel nails him. he's got a broken back, broken legs, and severe internal hemmoraging. the vet says put him down.

so, instead of getting to gillette at 1pm, it's now past 5 and thing went from just excellent to pretty crummy. i've had lots of bad days before, but i sure don't need any more of this.:nono:

ouch, that does make for a bad day. Very little hurts worse than fingers getting shut in a door. Hopefully they will feel better soon.

Before I spent the money on the injectors or pump, you might think about replacing or at least checking your battery. I had a battery go bad one time and the CD player would not eject the cd, and the transmision wasn't shifting right, even though the battery had enough power to start the truck, it wasn't running the electrical stuff correctly.

When it rains it pours eh Steve. Geesh man. My heart feels for you and I know how Rilda must feel. I remember slamming my fingers in the door once, and it's no fun.

We used to have a saying on the boat when I was a commercial fisherman.

"If it's not 1 thing, it's 3."

You are home safely...well, fairly safely....Geesh
