Straight Shooter
It was a tough week of hunting opening week here in NC, the weather was HOT HOT in the mid 90's everyday. I was able to connect on a Doe and a real nice 8 point, ( I have pic's posted in Success Thread) my amazement is this 8 point left no blood trail. I double lunged him at 24 yards, had blood spatter where the arroow came out and nothing was left for a blood trail. I knew that I hit this guy really good even though it was right at dark, it sounded like a 22 going of when I dead centered a rib bone. I could tell he was hit hard even though I couldn't see my arrow fly to him after the shot seeing where it hit him. I waited and listened for him to crashed but nothing. I gave it a couple of minutes and got down to inspect my arrow which was covered in great blood. I looked for the first 20 yards for blood on the path he left on, still no blood and I began to question my self but was still very confident in the shot. So, I went back and got my hunting partner and informed him of everything. We went back after an hour and started from the shot area, I went in the direction he ran in and still found no blood. I'm going nut because i knew I hammered this buck, he ran towards an old clear cut which was where I stopped looking for blood previously. My buddy took off looking about 10 yards from my left and I started walking on into the thicket. BAM! there he was dead within 40 yards and still no blood trail or blood where he laid, nothing even coming out of his nostrals. I always like to take photos of my deer the way they fall and you can see by the one photo there is no blood at all. I'm still puzzled how this could have happened and I had hit him where I thought. I even extracted his lung when I quartered him up just to see them and I wish I had taken a picture of that, there was two holes in his lungs just as pretty as you please. Anyway, i thought I'd share this and I'm sorry its a long story but i'm still amazed and it just goes to show that bowhunting is one fo the highest of highs and can take you down to the level of whale dung. LOL I'm very pleased with him and can't wait to get him to the taxidermist, I also killed a Doe.
Turkeygirl
Great job on 2 nice deer! Very pretty 8 point! Yeah, that is amazing your buck didn't bleed...maybe lung or hair clotted up the holes or the blood clotted really quickly...

Tominator
Good deal bud! That hit looks a little high, so he probably bled internally and died before the blood could fill up to the holes. I lost a doe like that last year. I put a decent shot on her, a little high, but still enough to clip one lung for sure, probably both. She laid down and a buck harrassed her and ran her off. We never did find her. Thank you Tom, yes that is the entrance hole and it does look a little high but the exit hole was right on the money. Your right too, the chest cavity was completely full of blood but that still doesn't explain no blood coming from his mouth or nostrils. I'm still bum-fuzzled over it, only clear fluid had come out of his mouth. Oh well, he is in the freezer and soon to be on his way to the taxidermist.

Straight Shooter
sorry I wrote this without reading the other post hmm not sure muzzys usually make a good blood trai It's definately not the broadheads, I've had great blood trails for years with the 75's. Only thing I can figure is what Tom said the shot was a little high and chest cavity didn't fill up before he died. He was down within 50 yards of where I shot him. deer_slayer08
Nice deer but he looks like a 9 point. Correct me if im wrong. Congrats
Straight Shooter
Nice deer but he looks like a 9 point. Correct me if im wrong. Congrats Yes, he has got a small G-4 (7/8") on his left beam but officially scoring him, it doesn't qualify. He also has a 3/8" G-4 on his right beam but legal scoring is 1" or longer for P&Y and the contest, so I call him an 8 point. If we go by hanging the ring thingy on him, he is a 10 point. spikekiller
First of all your membership to Scrubmasters has been revoked...secondly you kill a buck like that and complain because he didnt bleed?...remind me to never give you a million dollars as you would probably complain about paying the taxes. Actually I know what happened.. NC has been invaded by giant vampire :bat:'s ...I know this is true because I read it in a news paper called the Globe. Congrats on the fine kills!!
