Tough morning hunting geese

Went out this AM, had my 8 decoys set up and settled in before the sun was up. I was set with my decoys out in a cut alfalfa field and me sitting just on the edge of standing corn. Well I had geese fly over, mainly 2-4 geese at a time, not big flocks yet, but they totally ignored my set-up and my calls. Of course I'm still getting the hang of the calls down, but gee whiz.

Any tricks or anything different I should try?

I might out out in the AM in a diff. field. Season closes the 25th then opens up again in October, which by then will be really awesome hunting for sure...they drain the lake and corn is cut and by then the geese are in the fields all the time.

8 isn't a big spread, but if you are in the right location you should be ok..

Try adding some movement, flagging really can make the difference sometimes..

I made my own fags, just stapled some black material on a 1x2 piece of wood. The material is about 2ft sq - when the geese are at a distance, try slowly waving the flag while calling. I really believe adding the motion makes a BIG difference..

Main thing, keep scouting, make sure you are where they want to be,

I've seen a small set like you have work excellent. I agree with Missed160, flagging can make the difference of you watching the birds fly by or watching them pitch down in your spread. Like everything else, use it in moderation, the same holds true with the calling. Knowing when NOT to call is key...you can always add more, but after you have already called too much, you can't take it back. Make sure you are on the "x", make sure you are hidden well, and modify the flagging and calling, everything else should fall into place.

Good luck!
