ChasinTail
I enjoyed watching a spike tonight eating right under me and eventually laying down. Then I realized he wasnt going anywhere by the time I needed to get down from my stand. A possum walked up to him and I thought alright, this will get him out of here. Nope, the possum ate right next to him while he enjoyed the show. Finally I started tossing tree bark at him which he seemed amused at. Then, right at dark, I did an aggresive grunt which ended up bringing in another buck! He ran off the spike, then winded me. I caught a glimpse of him with my flashlight. Any tips on such situations with out ruining chances at these deer later in life? Next time, he may end up being dinner!
Buckhunter76
I've had that happen a few times lol, I had a small 6 do that to me this past year, I made noises with my stand purposely and all kinds of goofy noises, finally I got him to move by barking like a dog, he got up, took a few steps, then started blowing and he wasn't even noticing me, I had an awesome show that day, and it was around noon, got to see a nice 6 and 8 spar about 50 60 yards too. Gotta love it.

Tominator
If it's an area I don't want to disturb, I just wait them out. If I don't really care about disturbing the area, I just get down. I think an aggressive rattling sequence might do the trick. Not too many little guys hang around for that kind of noise. Texan_Til_I_Die
I always have a varmint call with me (for the coyotes and bobcats, not the deer) and I'll pull that out and start blowing on it. It usually takes a little bit, the deer don't just take off running at the first sound, but they'll eventually leave.
woolybear
I 've learned to not scare away live "confidence decoys". Sounds like you were doing fine with concealment and a good wind till you blew the whistle on yourself.

At least that's what I was talking about. Of course I'd never want to run any deer off while I was still hunting!
wtnhunt
Been stuck in the stand several times. Have waited them out too many times to count, can get you in trouble doing that though, because sometimes you think they are gone and they really are not. Unknowingly educated a doe last fall in the early archery and she was a thorn in my side for the remainder of the season. Far as how to get them to leave, have tried numerous different things to try to get them to leave, my attempt at a snort wheeze seems to work sometimes. When hunting stands close to the house, have called or radioed back to the house and had the wife or our oldest daughter either ride the 4 wheeler back or walk back with a flashlight to get the deer to leave so I could get down. Nothing too pressing for me to run home to.

TN Bucknasty
I got stuck until about midnight one time last year waiting on deer to clear the field. They just kept showing up. I just can't bring myself to spook them.

Michiganbuckhunter
Best things i have done are barking like dogs n howlin like a coyote. But i like the C'mere deer trick. That stuff scares um
mikewink
I no longer have this problem. I carry a wrist rocket in my pack for just this problem. And a pocket full of stainless steel ball bearings.:gun1: Now don't get any crazy ideas here....I launch a bearing into the trees. Makes a racket which usually gets them up and moving. Most of the time they will move off. To investigate the noise. I don't shoot them to the down wind area, alot of the deer will go investigate the noise. I don't want them winding me. I've only had 1 deer that needed further encouragement.:toot:
ChasinTail
I figured it out. Go ahead and change your mind that you will in fact harvest this deer, then Murphey's Law will work and you will immediatly scare the deer off with movement, noise, or smell! :chair:
aldridgem1
Never had that happen but thats cool that you actually grunted up a bigger buck... Hardcore rattling might have worked.

Hunt or be Hunted
OK, I got the perfect idea. What you do is if it happens again, Look at him dead in the eye, Tell em you better get your butt outta my way, Or if not, I could bring you home,And show you to my family, your pick buddy Either that, or just look at him in the eye and that will scare him when he looks at ya
Stinger-Hunter
1. Growl like a dog 2. Throw a big branch or rock and hit him in the buttocks 3. Make a little metal on metal sound if you can. They'll leave.
