maddhunter
If your going to bash or gripe about crossbows I don't need your 2 cents, PLEASE LEAVE. Thank You Thinking about getting a crossbow for hunting out of our blinds that we usually only rifle hunt out of since they are now legal archery equip. in OK. Yes I know about how far they don't shoot and how loud they are but just would like to get an idea of the better bows, durabillity and performance versus PRICE. Very new to crossbows, have always been a diehard compound user. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, maddhunter
The Kid
Me being a guy that loves getting the family out in the woods, loves the idea of a cross bow, shoot I know my aunt can't pull a compound back so if shes not allowed to use a cross bow she can't hunt? I'm for um and to anwser your question I think ten point and excalibur are some of the top of the lines they would be compared to a hoyt, bowtech, or mathews, like the parker and pse will probably be cheaper, umm i would assume like compounds you probably get what you pay for, but my aunt shoots a parker and boy is a pretty solid bow, i guess i would just ask yourself how much you want to spend on one and then go and shoot a couple different kinds!! LifeNRA
Just like regular compound bows, shoot as many as you can get your hands on!!! Some are quiet, some are not!!! My dad found that out when he shot the Excalibur! The Parker was a lot quieter. He came home with the Parker.
Ohiobucks
Outdoor Life just had a 2010 crossbow review, check it here: http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/gear/2010/07/crossbow-test-2010 I bought my son an older Horton Hunter, put a scope on top, and he is stacking the bolts together at 25 yards. swohiodave
I have a horton explorer and have been happy with it. I have used a horton summit for years and have killed many deer with it.

Jeramie
They would be fun to play with Dwin. And they are legal now so rock on.... Not my first choice but who can fault you for using something legal?
doubledrop
I actually have both a mathews compound and a horton crossbow. I still use both depending on which type of hunt im doing that day. Not sure what price range you are looking for, but you will just have to try a few out and see what you like. I like my horton very well but is a bit louder than most.
TravisM
I don't personally own a crossbow, but both my dad and older brother do. My brothers is a really expensive Ten Point crossbow and it is fast, but it's loud and pretty heavy. My dad just got a Barnett C5 Wildcat, and it seems to be a really nice crossbow and was around $360 for the package. He shot his first deer with it last season at about 20 yards. He shot a young buck square in the front shoulder blade and it went out the opposite shoulder blade. I was impressed with the punch it had to blow through both shoulders. Anyway...good luck with whatever you end up with.....have fun, be safe.
maddhunter
Thanks guys, you've been a big help. I've been looking at our local bow shop where I have purchased both our Mathews and they have some3 pretty good deals on new ones Price ranges from $379 to $1100. Since I am not worried about wieght or how loud it is shooting from a shooting house I think I will be ging with the cheaper one, it shoots 300+fps and I think that should be good out to 30yrds. Again Thanks !!!!!!!
