PAbowhunter4life
Well, I am shooting a Star Dot .676 out of my 835 right now. 4's don't work at all in it. The 2 best shells I have found for this combo that will kill @ 50 yards is Winchester 3" XX #6 (2 oz.) loads, and Winchester 3.5" XX #5 ( 2 1/4 oz.) loads. The patterns from both these combos are very impressive out to 50 yards. I do plan on trying a Hastings .690 choke this weekend because I have heard that hext to the Rhino/Nitro combo these are the chokes to have in an 835. However, that being said, you gun is not my gun. Every gun is a little different and prefers to be fed different food. I higly suggest you drop $15 on ebay and get a Star Dot and experiment with a few shells out of it. For a $15 choke, it is VERY impressive.
LifeNRA
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? I agree pretty much with what PAbowhunter said, every shotgun is going to be different. What you need to do is fine out which choke and shell will be best for your gun. I also have the 835, and will be testing a XXX comp-n-choke with everything I have EXCEPT HEVI-SHOT! Also, I have a Jellyhead tube from Primos that will be testing EVERTHING INCLUDING HEVI-SHOT! Once this WHITE stuff stops coating everything I'll get out and try this, I will post my results. Then again, its my gun not yours! It will only help guide you as to which one to try out!
slaw
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? I'm still using the same choke that came with the ulti-mag, I use winchesters supremes #4s.. and have an exceptional pattern aout at 50yrds 12 to 15 pellets in the head and neck areea at 50 yrds i thought was pretty good..it don't take many #4s to break his neckbone...good luck
HeviShot
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? MY friend shoots an 835 moss and a Tru Dot from wally world. His patterns are awsome with Win #6.
silentgate
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? I use Winchester HV Supreme 3 1/2" #5's in my 835 with a M.A.D. Max .680 choke. Have used this combination for several years now with good results. But, as stated earlier, all guns are different. At the cost of a sore shoulder, try several different combinations to arrive at what's right for you.
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? Yes, all guns are different because when I tried those same exact shells you just mentioned out of my 835 I barely hit paper lol
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? Like I said, look on ebay for a Star Dot .676 choke. I paid $15 shipped to my door for this one and it is very impressive. I am testing a Hastings this week and since it will most likely outperform the Star Dot, I would sell you mine if interested. Guest Rhinodog
Re: Mossberg & #4 ,#5, #6 shot?? [ QUOTE ] bud? lol.. I will use the choke thats included with the 835 and if i don't like the pattern im going to try the undertaker choke 1st and take it from their.. I believe the turkey choke that comes with the 835 turkey shotgun should be fine.. [/ QUOTE ] Stock choke is decent. I didn't like my undertaker, so I bought a lohman longbeard (or something like that). It the best patterning I've tried. I use winchester supreme (STH12354) 3.5" #4 shot.
