went out today and saw 3 does but nothing came in close. How do you guys deal with creek crossing? I have one that is empty now and i can cross, today i found 9 deer piles in one area ( buck and doe) around lots of acorns. I want to put a stand up and i know if we get lots of rain or even snow it will flash flood! Actually i am just whining......i am working on finding another way in because it is an area of untouched hunting ground that is really thick and riddled with trails.

Hey team, I'm just checking in. I just got the PM and it looks like I'm late to the party, but I'm glad to be selected and added to the team. I don't know what I had done, but somehow I had failed to sign up for this contest in time and had to be an alternate. I did make the 'Small Game' contest though, go figure.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and let's all hope for a safe and productive hunt.

I got out for a little of WV's Early Season Antlerless Muzzleloader hunt that concluded yesterday. I lucked up and dropped a doe with my inline...but in the process also managed to do some damage to my head! LOL embarrassing and plenty of fodder for my buddies to rib me about.

I posted the full story in the Deer Hunting forum.

Season opens up here Friday. I won't be in my stand until Saturday, but I'm about as ill prepared as I've ever been. Usually I've scouted several times and already have my clothes washed and ready to go. This year?? I haven't even purchased my license!

Oh well, I've been over prepared before and had the worst season of my life....maybe this will be the opposite!

Morning started out rough. Left my light, gloves and thermacell at the house. Since the trail to my tree is marked with glow tacks, it was impossible to follow them without my light. So I walked in blindly in the dark and ended up within 10 yards of my tree. Not bad, except for the fact that the two deer that ended up getting within 30 yards of me would have been chip shots from my old tree.

Anyway, at 8 a.m. I heard a deer walking in so I stood up slowly. Suddenly the deer came running in and stopped abruptly about 30 yards from me behind some brush. It stayed for a second and then bounded off. I thought that the deer had been pushed and assumed it was either a coyote or a hog so I stayed standing up in case one came by.

Five minutes later to my left I caught movement. A big buck was making his way to me. He stopped to rub on a tree and I got ready. Unfortunately, he made one more stop at another tree and then changed his route away from me. I could've taken a 30 yard shot through an opening in the brush, but I was sure he would come closer......he didn't.(I rough scored the buck in the high 120's and he had a kicker coming off of each G2....tall rack but only a 15-17 inch spread)

Anyway, it was a great morning to be in the stand. And after worrying about my lack of enthusiasm for the hunting season, now I'm so excited that I can't wait for the morning hunt!
