doubledrop
had it happen to me 3 years ago tracked for about 3 or 4 hours and the blood stopped. the problem was i had a good bloodtrail but not good blood......I smacked the shoulder blade and that was it. I actually saw the Buck like 2 months later with a nice bald spot on the front shoulder.
ruttinbuc
Did you recover the arrow?
Tominator
Brisket shot a deer one year, and it bled like a stuck pig. Tracked it for about 1/4 mile, then it simply petered out. Maybe you just got a muscle hit? Did the blood start looking kind of watery towards the end of the trail?

Maybe you just got a muscle hit? Did the blood start looking kind of watery towards the end of the trail? I sent a rage in a brisket last year and had the doe collapse in sight. She later got up and staggered off bleeding like crazy. I never found her. My WB had gotten lose and moved about a 1/4" downward. But.... with a screen name like you got, you can't complain. bloodtrails
Yeah, I got the arrow the tip had broke off, ( just the braodhead ) and about 2 inches up on my arrow had some blood, meat, and hair. the blood was very red and a little watery. But yeah it just pooped out about 100 yards from my stand. I found one tiny drop about 50 feet from a nice splash ( where it looked like he stopped ) then thick woods and gone! Well, there will be more I have no doubt still got three months!:death:
abear491
I had that happen a couple of years ago and saw a lot of blood and found the arrow to be a pass through but started trailing him to early. How long did you wait to start recovering it?
Jeramie
I had that happen with a 30-30 but have never had it happen with a bow. I shot a doe with a 30-30 years ago and nailed her. She bled like she had been hit by a big truck. Followed it for about 1/4 mile. Blood everywhere and all at once it quit. Never found her. To date in roughly 20 years of hunting deer that is the only one ive ever lost.
huntnfish
Last year I lost one. It took a step just as I was about to release arrow. I am assuming I hit it too far back. Recovered arrow with dark blood. Backed out for 4 hours came back and never picked up on a blood trail. Had half the hunt club helping and still never found blood or deer. If I had not found the arrow I would have assumed I just missed.

tedicast
3 hours of "good" blood, and no deer is just shouting that it is a muscle hit. Any arrow that goes through heart, lungs, or liver, is going to be fatal. Not a chance you'll have 3 hours of good blood on any of those hits. I've been there. It isn't easy to accept. HUNTINGMAN
I tracked a doe for most of the day one time. I thought it was a good hit,had blood for about 1/2 mile and she went up some hills that I couldn't hardly climb they were big and steep. It's amazing the will to live that a deer has. You said the point was broken off your broadhead,is there any chance you could have hit a limb and damaged the head so it couldn't get good penetration after a deflection. Maybe! it was getting dark so there could have been something I did not see when looking through my peep. And the Rage I sent at him would cause damage even if it was a bad hit. Causing him to bleed !
RangerClay
. And the Rage I sent at him would cause damage even if it was a bad hit. ! Did you send a 2 or 3 blade Rage?

And the Rage I sent at him would cause damage even if it was a bad hit. Causing him to bleed like a mofo! Maybe, maybe not. I've not been impressed with the results I've gotten from the Rage 2 blade. I've switched to a fixed blade head this year.
swampwright
few years back hit one looked to be a good shot, ran to the river and you could see where he rolled in the mud and water. Not a drop after that, the neighbor found him about 200 yards from last blood in think brush. Its always hard to lose any deer.
m gardner
The little woman hit one last year. I thought she had missed him. We found the arrow and it was covered with blood. Had a decent blood trail until he laid down then it stopped. The blood was a little frothy too from the skin working under his leg against the brisket I imagine. We saw him several times later on that week and he seemed fine. Couldn't get close to him though. Go figure. By the way it was with a Montec so I guess it was plenty sharp.Mark
bloodtrails
Yes 3 hhous! I looked every where to see if he was around somewhere, the woods are thick and there is lots of area to cove and Yes it was a 2 blade! I'll be going with the G5 T-3's next time! redkneck
All broadheads kill deer, all broadheads lose deer. The deer really don't care who made them, but some deer have a phenomenal will to live, and sometimes we just don't stick them where we should. Just another bow hunting story, we all have them and try to figure out what went wrong and try to do better next time.
bloodtrails
Yup! I can assure you that I will chalk it up to a learning experience! and I'm sure there will be plenty more!...........man I love bowhunting!!!!:death:

You hear horror stories about every broadhead on the market every year.. I dont give a rats behind what you use, if you hit them in the shoulder blade 9 times outta 10 you arent gonna find them.. Flintlock1776
from all the shots I've taken from 5 yards to 40, all but 2 of them dropped using my Magnus 4 Blade stingers. The other two went 20 yards. I'm sticking with that blade!
Stinger-Hunter
It has happened to me a few times. It is gut wrenching. I looked for over 8 hours for a deer before. The least amount of time I have looked for a deer was 3 hours. Shot one in the neck once and it plugged up. Never found her. Shot one in the brisket with a lot of blood, never found her. Shot one in the shoulder last year with very little blood. Never found her. Bow hunting is NOT more ethical than rifle or shotgun hunting. I did a survey on here a few years ago and it came back 3 lost deer with a bow for every 1 lost deer with a gun. Over 40 people participated. You have to make sure you have the most optimal shot possible and practice practice practice shooting. Your experience losing this deer has already taught you a lot about tracking blood, I bet. I learned an awful lot on my 3.
