bfletch7441
So my oldest daughter turns 6 on October 5th, and she wants a bow. What do you all recommend? One of the little compounds or a long bow set up? I'm pretty pumped about it! She's been going hunting with me for 3 years now, but it's subject to get really fun if she enjoys shooting a bow. What say ye? Ben
buckee
COOL I'd get her the smallest compound you can find, if they make one small enough that she can pull back. Have fun eh
MCH
Ben, I got my 6 year old a Bowtech Nuclear Ice(I think...LOL). It can be cranked down pretty low, but he still had a little trouble pulling it back. A year later and he's doing fine, though. The complete package ran me about 180....that's completely set up, with arrows, rest and sight. Also spent $20 on a youth release. On a side note....they do come in pink because I threatened to buy my son that color.
Adjam5
How does Dad hunt? With a wheel bow or stick n string? Get her what you shoot. A little bond there. If you shoot a compound... The Mathews Genesis is great starter bow. No set draw length. Just about 20lbs of draw, most anyone can draw it with the smooth Mathews cam . My sons started out with that bow, then moved up to the Browning Micro Midas 3 when more poundage was needed.
Hoosierbuck
I started mine on the mini Genesis. Even a little smaller and lighter to pull. I can still play around and shoot it (with bad form) at 6'2". HB
stevebeilgard
genesis is the correct answer to me. then move her up as she develops.

okiedog
I'm in the same boat. My son will turn 6 Nov 1st. He will be getting the Mission Menace. You can get them in pink as well. http://missionarchery.com/Menace-bow.asp Edited September 29, 2010 by okiedog
wyohunter
whatever brand you get, just make sure she can draw it back NOW...not in the future, if she cant have fun with it right away, she might sour on the idea and want to do something else, like play with dolls and other stupid crap :clown:
bfletch7441
She loved the bow. I ended up getting this one: http://www.basspro.com/Bear-Archery-Brave-III-Compound-Bow-Whisker-Biscuit-Archery-Package-for-Youth-Pink/Gray/product/10206334/-1684658 I had to turn down the weight a little, but she was able to draw it really well. Now it's just a matter of getting her to learn how to aim. May take a while, but that allright. I'll try to remember and get some pictures. I'm pretty excited to see her enjoying it so much!
