Jeramie
Keep in mind I’ve never had a health problem until they discovered I had a fatty liver at the age of about 32. Anyway, they checked my cholesterol about 3 weeks ago and it was REALLY high so they put me on cholesterol medicine. I took it for about 3 - weeks with no side effects. Suddenly, this past Saturday, I started having really bad craps in my back and diaphragm. It was bad enough I was in the fetal position. We have been working really hard around the house so I figured I had pulled a muscle (I am 34 after all, things hurt that didn’t use to hurt). I suffered through Saturday having severe cramps about every 30 minutes and sometimes less. Finally Saturday night I wondered if it was the pills so I didn’t take them. Woke up Sunday with cramps. Suffered through Sunday. Didn’t take the pills again. Cramps again yesterday, didn’t take the medicine last night. Finally, this morning I got up and was in the shower. I was suddenly hit with the urge to vomit. I never throw up and have only a few times in my life but still had to stand over the stool. Finally I sort of up-chucked a liquid. At first I thought it was blood as it had a metallic taste and was very thick. Spit it in the stool and it was clear. That was odd... Five minutes later... same thing. The pain quit. Call my Dr's Office at 8:00 to talk to them. The nurse tells me that is normal with this medicine. They will need to put me on something else to combat the effects of the first medication. Are you kidding?! Right now I feel like burning a pharmacy to the ground, taking more medicine and waiting for the side effects does not sound like a good plan.... Regardless, I have an appointment at 4:15 to get this looked at... getting old sucks..

wtnhunt
Have found from experience that a good portion of physicians think they know everything and simply will not listen to you. They also seem too quick to want to prescribe meds for those diagnosis that may not always be accurate. May not be the case with what you have been through Jeramie, but I honestly don't have a lot of trust in physicians after last years deal with our youngest having to have an emergency tonsilectomy on fathers day weekend because our family doctor did not want to listen to me or my wife(who has been a registered nurse for several years). Really sucks we took her in to his office 3 times over a couple weeks and she was diagnosed with flu, then infection as a result of flu, then strep and to be honest I don't know that any of his diagnosis were accurate. All the while the wife was suggesting she thought the kids tonsils were overly swollen and was concerned she had tonsilitis and she was right and our daughter went through what was needless suffering. I hope you get better soon Jeramie without the need for meds to counter other meds, if it were me I would get an opinion from a different physician if at all possible. Goinghuntin
Wow that must really suck. I'm surprised they didn't warn you of that before you took it. Nathan
Jeramie
Wow that must really suck. I'm surprised they didn't warn you of that before you took it. Nathan No kidding.... right? I had my blood test done, they called the results to the house and talked to my wife. She picked up the medicine and I never heard another word. This guy is a decent doctor. He and his wife practice together (she is a MD, he is a surgeon). They are really good people but their practice has blown up and im afraid he is getting too busy to give the 100% attention required. popgun
Seems no one ever reads the inserts the pharmacists put in the bag with the new medications, or if there is no insert showing the side effects the patient is too preoccupied to Google the name of the medication to find out more information. I guess it is easier to just take it as prescribed and complain about the side effects. Most pharmacists will tell you that the biggest problem they have is patient compliance. Any time a patient must start a new medication the patient should find out what to expect, and give the body time to adjust to it. ....popgun
Tominator
Doc put me on a statin a couple years ago. It gave me severe dizzy spells accompanied with nausea. I stopped taking them. Nobody in my family has a history of heart trouble. We are all Eastern European born and bred. We eat fat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert and still, no heart trouble. I tease my brother who's been taking one for years. I keep saying "you're killing your liver to save your heart..."
buckee
Yeah, just reading those side effects is dang scary, considering that some of the side effects are worse than what you have...LOL I hope you Get well soon.

Shaun_300
Man that sucks Jeramie! You would think they'd tell you about that before you took it. My doctor put me on a medication to make me sleep back when I was sick late last year. She and my pharmacist both said I may get some side effects including metallic taste. Took the medication, had absolutely crazy dreams, woke up tasting like I had a piece of rusty steel in my mouth all night, which the taste of that was making me want to throw up. I stopped taking those right away and she got me on something else that does the job with no side effects. Hope they get it straightened out soon! Jeramie
Dude, you're not that old. Eat better - 70% fruits and veggies and your cholesterol will go down. Holy mackeral. Actually I dont eat that bad and im fairly atheletic. I use to body build so I know a lot about diet. This is a genetic thing. My dad weighs 140lbs and several years ago his cholesterol was over 500. A year later he had 6 bypasses at one time. I didnt even know you had 6 arteries going into the heart. Anyone in my bloodline is suppose to have their cholesterol checked starting in their early 20's.
Jeramie
Took off work early yesterday and went to the doctor. We talked for a bit and I told him I was off the medicine. Things are getting better day to day. I’m actually not having any real trouble this morning. He had me eat chocolate while I was there so he could rule out my stomach. It didn’t have any effect so he drew blood and sent it to the lab to make sure there is not tissue damage. If there is he wants to switch medicine in 2-weeks. If that doesn’t do it we are talking lifestyle change. I don’t think there is much I can do about that as im already eating under 2k calories a day and running again. So the saga continues...
