Chenango Dave
That's what it sounds like when you're close to it... I don't know if the honey bees are stupid around me or what but this is the second honeycomb I've found right out in the open like this. Needless to say none of them made it thru the winter in the one I found last year. I found that one after it had already frosted. Anbody else ever seen one like this right out in the open? Here's the one from yesterday.. And the honeycomb from last year.. Take care Dave
Hunt or be Hunted
Did you throw a rock at it?

ruttinbuc
Cool find, Dave! Saw a lot of hornets nests and honeycombs in old barns and such, but never in the open like that.
Tominator
I've seen one like that. I'd be tempted to take it and use the wax for string wax, or sell it for candles.

Ravin R10 man
Honeybees dont build a protective outer shell..thats why domestic bees are in a hive with combs ready for honey..likel;y these are a swarm that got away and did not find a hollow tree to use.. did you get any honey off that ?? Man I'da been makin like Winnie the Pooh if i saw that!!
dbHunterNY
unusual but still very cool pictures. yea maybe they were domestic bees, you'd still think they'd know enough to build somewhere else though.
