Dawg
My son has shown interest in bow hunting. Problem is, I don't have the $ to buy a good youth bow for him to start out on. What I am thinking is buying a Bear Archery Brave 2 bow. It isn't top of the line but I think it would be a good bow for him to hone his shooting skills. What say ye? 92xj
What kind of pull weight can he manage?
Dawg
What kind of pull weight can he manage? I'm not sure. This will be his first bow. I think he should be able to manage at least 18-20 lbs. 20+ views and 1 reply. You folks are full of advice.
92xj
18-20? how old is this kid? I thought most youth bows were 35-50 range, and that was somewhat doable for a kid around the age of 10.

bfletch7441
My oldest is turning 6 and I bought her this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10206334_175003000_175000000_175003000_175-3-0 She pulled it back at the store. It was tough, but she did it. Doubt your boy would want a pink one, but they've got other colors too. Ben

Hmm, I really have/had no idea what kind of weights kids could pull. If he was up to the 50 lbs mark, there are a couple of bows around here for sale that I was going to look into, but from the sounds of it, he's not. I have just not had the experience with kids and shooting bows so I had no clue on weight.
rhine16
Well my 9 year old brother just started hunting this year... pulling 42 pounds, but he's a big kid. He had a Matthews Genesis before we got him this one, and we'd like to sell it. Max weight on it is 25#. Let me know if interested.

SE_KSBowhunter
I bought my son a Bear Apprentice a few weeks ago, he is 9 as well and pulling 25 lbs. The draw length is adjustable from 15 to 27 inches and 20 to 50 pounds, does not need a bow press to adjust length. Only have to change a set screw in each cam. Comes with sights, whisker biscuit and quiver, quality youth bow and retails around $270.
clrj3514
Once he's ready, a Browning Micro Midas 3 like I have may be ideal. 18"-28", 30-40 lb draw. Good bow, very fast!
