VermontHunter
I'm in the market for a new range finder, and my budget will allow for one of these two. Which is the better range finder for the money ?? Here are the choices .. Nikon Team Realtree 550 Laser Rangefinder http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders%7C/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Nikon-Team-Realtree174-550-Laser-Rangefinder/720722.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-optics-rangefinders%2F_%2FN-1100062%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280 Leupold RX-600 Compact Laser Rangefinder http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders%7C/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Leupold174-RX-600-Compact-Laser-Rangefinder/748888.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-optics-rangefinders%2F_%2FN-1100062%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280 I look forward to hearing your opinions .. WHISKEYSWAMP
I've had a Nikon for quite a few years now with no complaints... It looks like they both have positive reviews so I would not hesitate on either.
VermontHunter
Lets throw this one into the mix also .. Bushnell Scout 1000 ARC Rangefinder with Riflescope Combo http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Optics/Rangefinders%7C/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/Bushnell174-Scout-1000-ARC-Rangefinder-with-Riflescope-Combo/748725.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-optics-rangefinders%2F_%2FN-1100062%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104525280
buckee
I've only owned a Nikon, so I can't say anything about the others. That Leupold® RX-600 sounds sweet too, and so does that combo pack from Bushnell. Prices sound pretty good too.
VermontHunter
The Bushnell has ARC Technology which the other two haven't got for a feature. I'm hearing some horror stories on the NIKON warranty and customer service .. This bothers me truthfully ..
toddyboman
Basspro has the leupold rx-600 on sale for 179.99 right now..... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202112_425001008_425000000_425001000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

toddyboman
Yep, saw that Todd ,, Thanks I'm just trying to figure the best rangefinder for the money, doesn't have to be the cheaper one .. I understand.....I am kinda going through the exact same dilemma you are..... i have one currently and it works....but its big and bulky. Sure would like to have a smaller one....... I am currently leaning towards the RX-600....but also thinking maybe I can limp through another season with my big bulky bushnell one..... VermontHunter
From all of the reviews I've been reading Todd, the only downfall of the RX-600 is that it has a issue with low light .. not that's a big biggy .. other than that I like the 600 as well .. dbHunterNY
Hopefully within the next week or so I'll be getting the new Nikon Riflehunter 1000. I've good things on both. The Rifleman 550 from Nikon has ID (angle compensation) tech I think.

Yup that low light is the only issue I have seen......but I too agree not a big deal. I generally range trees and other things prior to the actual shot. Of course I have always done this because my range finder was to big to operate in one hand and hold my bow in the other.
Flintlock1776
I have an older Bushnell 1000. Amazing how long the 9V battery lasts. I use it to range around me when I settle into a stand so I am ready to go.

VermontHunter
Well, layed out all of the options for the wife last night and we came to the conclusion the Bushnell Package is the way to go ,, so she's ordering it for me for my B-Day present .. I will have to hold off on my video arm,, but I guess I can't have it all .. Dang It .. lol
wtnhunt
I really like nikon scopes and we have a bushnell range finder I have had no problems with, but of those options I would probably opt for the leuopold Luke. The nikon rangefinders have also heard about warranty issues(cough cough Tominator), I have had some issues with bushnell csr's over the lifetime warranty on one of the companies they own. btw, welcome back. On the video arm, check out the archers choice by ameristep. For the money I would tend to doubt there is a better one on the market. toddyboman
have you decided yet???? Had my dad looked through the nikon 550 and leupold rx-600 this weekend while he was at BP......He said the Nikon was clearer and the cross-hairs/aiming device was brighter..... So he said he would have bought the nikon based on that.....

Flintlock1776
I did not realize that has the ARC, that is pretty good. I stand corrected I have the Bushnell Yardage Pro 500 but it has served me well for more years than I care to recall:angel2: Have fun with you new gear. I wonder if crossbows need a different ARC set up?
VermontHunter
Have fun with you new gear. I wonder if crossbows need a different ARC set up? Thanks !! I'm not sure on the crossbow inquiry. I'm not even sure I need it with the speed of my bow and the hiegth I hunt from (15ft) ..
dbHunterNY
A crossbow wouldn't be any different than a slow bow or a fast bow. It's all about sighting in your bow on flat ground where the distance is completely horizontal and effected by gravity. Then when elevated all you care about is the distance from the spot straight down underneath your stand out to the intended target. The error in yardage is less effected by a flatter shooting bow or crossbow, but wouldn't need to work any different.
Flintlock1776
OK , cool. I have an older Bushnell Pro 500 but it is big and bulky. I have to check out those smaller ones someday
