Jeramie
We were bought out by a very large company last year (34 billion company). They actually have had control of pretty much everything for about 2 - years but took the reins last year. They complained about the economy yet we had to listen to telecast meetings where they bragged about cash flow, meetings in resorts in Florida, people moving up the ladder, etc. However, at the end of the telecast they would always give us, "The outlook is bleak. We need to dig if we want to win and gain market share while the economy is like this." Fast forward to today. Our company is setting records. We are rolling in millions. My group in particular is stacking cash up as we have greater than 60% margin on our products and are a several million dollar business. I have been flying all over the stinking US and dang near flew out to Alberta next week. We have been digging, making money, kicking rear, and taking names... The whole company has. So we got an update recently. "Congratulations gang, we are back on top. Things are looking good. Your company is hooked up and setting records, etc. After two years of hard work without a single merit increase we are re-instating them! Your first will be available October 1st." I get my check today.... I made $1.29 more...... #$%^%#@##$%^%$%^&(*^&*(%&$^#^$*^&$^#%#@@@#!#@$$%#%^&%#$%$@#%#^%@$^&*(^%^^&$^^%R&^$^#%$@#$@$#@$!$#&^%^^*(^*&(&(^*%$^%$&R*&()&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not too meritorious were you? The question is - Was it your supervisor who set that rate, or did it come from higher up? If it was your supervisor, you might be able to get more next time by finding out what he/she expects and then working towards those expectations. If it came from higher up, well....good luck. Actually everything was based off of our goals. This company is very binary. Everything is black and white, "Did you achieve this? Did you achieve that?" However, this raise was dang near across the board with everyone. It was a very, very small percentage. Im being told it is because they have been re-instated so we will be due one the first of the year (around April) and they didnt want to pay out too much money all at once. Gee, thanks. Dawg
Don't spend that all in one place now. Seriously, I know how you feel. I am in the same situation with the company I work for.

ruttinbuc
Be happy you got that, Jeramie. 1 in 5 people in this country don't have a job. We are in the longest stretch of bad news on unemployment since the great depression.
Newarcher
I feel you....my company has a monthly conference call for our business unit each quarter and each quarter a person or team is given the 'President's award'. Two quarters ago, my team won the President's award and I thought..."well here we go its time to get something cool...money, time off, whatever". Well, I am still waiting. A meritless award...you gotta love that! New

stevebeilgard
since the job market is so poor, most companies are not giving raises or bonuses, even though deserved. even though you earned a bunch more, they will give your bonus to the stock holders. pretty crummy, but that's the way it is. hunterbobb
I'll trade you for the 3% pay cut I took. Not a lot of sympathy here.
redkneck
Its going to be hard to choose between that pack of gum or that Diet Mt. Dew.... Diet Mt Dew is going for 1.59 here (been on sale lately it's normally 1.79 for the 20oz). You could get one of the stubby's though they're selling now. :clown: Sounds crappy bud, but I'm not surprised. We've been hit hard in the automotive sector, but I still manage better than $1.29 increases, though not a lot better, haha.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I work for a small company and haven't had a cost of living raise in seven years... I've had a couple big raises in that time frame because I went in and negotiated them with the boss. I don't see a raise coming anytime soon unless the building industry picks up drastically. I've told the general manager where I'd like to see my salary within the next couple years, just have to pray things take a turn for the better. Hoosierbuck
It wouldn't have been such a big deal if they hadn't built it up to be something it wasn't, right? Once again, what you deserve and what you get aren't always in the same zip code with each other. The good news is, It's the same with God, but through Jesus, you get what HE deserved, not what we deserve. This stuff down here is significant in our day-to-day lives, but don't lose sight of what is really important. HB

Strut10
My company is turning 1 - 1.5 billion profit per quarter. You got $1.29 more than I did. You should send someone a thank-you card for thinking of you.
Jeramie
I'll trade you for the 3% pay cut I took. Not a lot of sympathy here. We went through 6-months of 2009 with a 10% Furlough. The thing that really stinks is that we are an Oil Based company (combustion). They hyped this up like, "Congratualtions gang! We are back on top and youre going to see raises again!" $1.29..... sheesh.
