Ethan Givan
That is an awesome buck. Question....what are pods?
redkneck
That is an awesome buck. Question....what are pods? Basically little condoms behind the broadheads that roll back and release powered anectine to poison the deer. They're illegal to shoot, but there are no state laws to enforce it here, and honestly very few do it, and fewer and fewer every year. Several different delivery systems, the syringes are amazing, my cousin used to shoot them in the hind quarters with them and they'd go down usually in sight, plus the meat is safe to eat. I'm in no way approving of it, just the opposite, but trying to answer your question. You'll notice the blue at the end of his arrow shafts where it goes into the quiver. Also.... just heard from my buddy that knows him, and he tells me the deer was killed in IL. I was fed a line of @#$@ in an email it appears. :angel2: Though there are deer here that big and bigger

I have never heard of anything like that, or seen them anywhere. So if I understand these things, then they do not require the hunter to make a good shot on the deer to recover the animal right? If it has poison, then you could hit the deer anywhere and it would die. Thats crazy. So if this deer was killed in IL, are those pods legal up there? redkneck
Honestly I'm just going on hearsay that the deer was killed in IL, but my coworker knows him and his family and told me it was an IL deer, and yes my understanding is that the federal law bans use of poison for taking deer. The guys that use it, (again I cant say this guy is, but sure looks funny in his quiver) basically have it as an insurance policy. Using a broadhead like we all do trying to make a heart/lung shot, but having the anectine as a back-up. It does not work so well in the organs, but works best in muscle tissue (the reason my cuz shot syringes in the hams). Some folks also equip their kids with it that are pulling marginal poundage bows. Personally I know of nobody anymore that does this, though pop did shoot them many years ago. Anectine and pod setups are still available over the counter in ms I don't see a use for it personally with all the great BH's out there, not to mention is is against the law. wtnhunt
About probably 18 years ago used to work with a guy who hunted in Mississippi, he used pods, said the deer they shot with them never made it far regardless of where they hit them. Interesting that the story here has changed to Illinois, betting it is not legal for use in that state, which might make the person in the pic a target for that states dnr. redkneck
Who knows William. I can only attest to what I've been told and what the pic seems to tell. I know the guy's name, I think I may know his dad, but will let them deal with that. I'm just a little put off with the person that originally sent me this in an email claiming it was from Smith co. MS.
