Arrow Slingin Day

Finally got my PC fixed so...I'm back.

I sure slung some arrows on Saturday the 9th.

The morning started with the sounds of grunting hogs coming up the creek. I quickly changed arrows. I hate to shoot my Montecs at pigs. I have some bigger cut 125 gr. broadheads for them. 2 pigs stepped out into an opening 21 yards away. I put an arrow through the top of the closest one's heart. That 200# sow only ran ~25 yards before crashing. Unfortunately, the 2nd pig knew the napping pig was hurt and never offered me a shot on her. I was reloaded and ready if she had.

That afternoon the wind was finally right to hunt a stand I have in a funnel with 3 honey locust trees in it...one dropping bean pods. It sure was hot that afternoon. I got a text from redkneck that he was sweating in a tree on the east side of the state. About 6:20 a 2.5 yr. old 8 point comes in to fest on bean pods. He got a pass. Then 3 does come from the opposite direction to share the feast. With so many eyes around it took me 3 attempts to get my bow drawn. When I finally get to full draw the biggest one is behind a limb close to the 15 yard line so I switched to another one at the 25 yard line. It was so quiet with no wind whatsoever and after missing a doe already on opening morning that ducked my arrow, I made myself aim low. She didn't duck at all and my arrow barely touched her chest. She went left and the others went right. All stopped wondering what happened. The doe I barely touched even started easing back to check out the blinking red lighted nock on my arrow. She didn't like it and left. The other 2 does & the buck were in a bad position to see it and they eased back in. I finally got a 2nd arrow ready to fly and the biggest doe now offers a 28 yard shot. This time it hit home with a crack. She got up and trotted off about 100 yards & crashed. Pics are posted in the deer contest entry thread.

BTW...since then I gave another pig a dirt nap too. That pig was one of 4 that ran off a mature 12 point that was coming in this past Monday afternoon. Same buck with the G2 kickers I've been getting pics of this summer. Didn't take pics of that pig but it was around 50#. Needless to say, I was not really a happy camper that day.
