92xj
Deer are already starting to come in. Tim's set up, in front of a watering hole.... He thinks he is Leo in Africa.
92xj
Soon after the smaller buck pictured above, Tim had a "good buck" come in downwing 15 yards out, hard to keep scent away from the deer with 15mph wind. Said around the 130 mark. Also, just had a 120" 8 pt at 25 yards.

Tim Andrus
Well, it was a awesome evening in the blind, except for 1 mosquito that I think followed me from Malta,Montana!!! The deer were sure piling in at last light , we had a few like the last buck that Ben posted. Well , jusr finished a awesome dinner with Donnie and his family headed bck to sort some gear and get some rest.
92xj
Day 2 Moved to a new blind this morning. Tim is trying to get some pictures but is having a slight problem with being covered up by deer! What a horrible problem to have! So far they have seen 3 bucks and 6 does. He also just let a 125+ 8pt walk at 25 yards. If they joker comes back another hunt he might just get real friendly with a muzzy. Good luck boys! 92xj
They just had 3 more does walk in. I asked Tim if he is rattling and or plans on it. He is not rattling now and is not sure if he will do any on this trip. Any of your Texas boys have any axperience rattling this early in the season down there? This is a question for me, not Tim. I am sure Tim knows the deer everywhere like the back of his hand, me on the other hand have no idea what Texas deer like and do this time of season. Texan_Til_I_Die
Absolutely I'd try rattling. Mornings only, no PM rattling unless I was trying to get a buck that I had seen to turn around and come back. Mornings are much more productive right now than evenings. I hunted Wednesday morning and saw 3 bucks, including an 8 point and a 10 point, plus a doe. Hunted Wednesday afternoon and saw nada. If there are any wheat or oat fields on that ranch, the deer are piling into them early in the afternoon. Need to be on stand about 3:30 or so. The parade should start around 4:00. Good luck Tim! dbHunterNY
At least they're on deer. He only needs one big one to come in. Hard to believe monsters live in such scrubby looking country. It's the place to be though.

I agree, try the rattling. The deer are moving more in the evenings here in SE TX. I wish they would start moving more in the mornings though. Good luck Tim!
