shockwave
How many of you out there have had this happen to you ?? So im sitting in a great location, the wind is blowing away from a bedding area, when prime time hits and the wind changes direction ?? So about 2 minutes after the wind changed i hear deer blowing no more than 50 yards from me....I wanted to scream !!!!! I`m hoping if i let things settle down for a week that i can get back in there and hunt it again... I had to vent thanks for being a shoulder to cry on... WHISKEYSWAMP
yep... the wind has been odd this year. Normally it's out of the south, sw,or se around here but has been out of the north most of the time this year. I always look at the detailed hourly forecast on weather.com to see what is predicted. However, two nights ago the wind was opposite what it said.
c_lou
Happend to me last night. I sat in a stand because of the WNW wind. Most of the night it was but a few times it switched to the SSE, which is no good for my set up. Stinks when that happens.

buckbuster11
Happens all the time. Really got to pay attention to the hourly weather forecasts and keep an eye out for days where the wind is swirling. Not to mention you need to watch those thermals too. These freaking north winds this year are killing me.:48:
Tony
i really found out this year in Montana how fickle the wind can be. shifting and going one way and then 20 mins later the other way. at leats here in Iowa i dont have to deal with thermals much. but what can you do.. if the wind shifts are you going to go home or switch stands right during prime time. i dont think so, just have to deal with it and go on. maybe try getting a little higher or recheck your gear for the scent your giving off. i had to set a stand in a location and had to go to 28 feet before i could feel better about scent control. im like you i had to setup near a bedding area to cut off bucks cruising during the rut. but i hunt that stand most on a N to NW wind. i would wait until you have the right wind and try again, but if it shifts and they bust you again that will be really bad. i had to move a stand just for this reason, but thats one of the hardest things about hunting near bedding areas. thats why i prefer to hunt transition areas from feeding to bedding. less chance to get busted. Good Luck. Tony
