muggs
never tried that, I mostly use my doe decoy out in bean fields, as a confidence booster.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Decoy Question Never tried it, I would think it would be too hard to see. It may work, though if the deer can get a glimpse of it. I'd rather have mine standing straight up, though.
Jeramie
Re: Decoy Question Only tried once and it was actually my 3D target. They didn't much care for it. I know it was scent free and downwind of the trail. I stuck it in the timber so it wouldn't be easy to see. They came into sight and then tore up ground getting out of there. I never tried it again! billkay
Re: Decoy Question I do set one bedded regularly. I'll also place a standing, alert deke nearby and at times a feeder. I use the Renzo's dekes so there is no problem getting several into the field. An alert buck standing over a bedded doe during the rut is a really good tactic. Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: Decoy Question i just got done doing some modifications on mine. Made it so it is feeding. That way i can lure out some deer in the field to get another doe. Taking boy with me. Then i drilled a hole in back where tail is, you NEED movement on the tail!! I put nail in hole so tail will swing, then took an small ice fishing pole with fishing line, that way you can real it in easy when done. Hook it to the tail so i can wag it and tell the deer it is safe, come on out, so i can take a shot, lol. I want to get another decoy, so i can make one a buck and one a doe. OHHH i bet mr. buck would be tick right off if he seen that!! Maybe, set them up, so the buck is mounting the doe! That should get some attention! Of course during pre-rut or rut I always put the decoy in a clearing with no tree's, that way i know they will see it. I had bucks come in to it, got kinda skitish, no movement on deer. One time i was setting the darn thing up, just got done and staking it to the ground, i here this urp urp urp urp..here comes a button buck running down the pipeling toward me. I run to get my bow, cause i didn't know what it was for sure at the time. He runs up too it, looks at it for about 1min and takes off running and grunting again, lol. mike
Tony
Re: Decoy Question i use a decoy all the time when im usually rattling during pre rut...i use it as a buck and then during the rut i use it as a doe... i have the carry lite decoy that is in the bass pro catalog... i might use it tonight as a confidence booster to the does im after.... i have never had a deer run from my decoy....im not sure why they would do that... unless it wasnt properly descented or it wasnt positioned quite right.. or it just didnt move after a long time and the does had a chance to watah it not move... remember that if you use a decoy in early season as a doe that the other does will get nosey and bust you if it doesnt move for a long time...tail motion like white toliet paper tied to the tail will help ... and no i havent used mine laying down yet .. but that could be just the ticket if you have 2 decoys .. 1 laying down asa doe and one standing near it as a buck... it could produce a really agressive reaction from a bigger buck... Sam16
Re: Decoy Question Last year i rattled in a nice 8 pt and it came in, saw my decoy (doe decoy), stared at it about 35 yards from my tee for about 2-3 minutes, finally ran off. Guess he was waiting for it to move and it didnt. O well...
