njbowhntr
Totally understand. I looked into hunting some of those properties. But being I am a non-resident of Hunterdon I have to wait the extra day. And you are right, tough competition. Good luck on your final week there. ruttinbuc
Thanks Ron, I missed out on the Permit season by the guy in line in front of me. There are other options but the one's I wanted take me farther from home when I can least afford it. I am a non resident of Hunterdon also. toddyboman
Great pics Mike!! Great pics Mike! Wish more people(me included) would take a camera along with them and post pics for everyone that's cooped up at work. I agree... Thanks Kevin, It can get you in trouble at times. I would like to take it out more. I fear getting caught so it stays in the bag most of the time. . I agree to this too...... I almost ALWAYS take my video camera and muddy camera arm with me....but that too can get me into trouble. Sometimes I am working harder on getting a shot with my bow than I am with my camera so I miss some of the good stuff.......
ruttinbuc
Thanks again, everyone! I got out this afternoon and walked the property and rattled some, but it was all for naught. I found a spot where there were some rubs and a few scrapes as well as a bunch of beds. I decided to sit right in the middle of it and see what develops. At 5:45 I had a decent 6 point come into the big rubs in front of me. It would have been a 35 yard shot had I decided to take it. He came out of the heavy hedgerow to my right and had his nose in every tree along the edge before the rubbing bush. Took some pictures but my hide blocked the auto focus and the manual focus control was undo-able with gloves on. I did manage to get a few shots and a short clip. He crossed an open field and ended up in the standing corn across the way. All the action in front of me took my eye off the ball a little. A bit after the buck disappeared I turned to look into the just starting winter wheat field behind me and saw two deer crossing about 80 yards out.. Through my binoculars it was a no doubter 9 or 10 point and the other was a high, at least, 6 point. They were in the thick way up behind me that fast. I rattled the horns some and grunted a bit, but they didn't show up. I take it they made their way across the field to the corn out of view. I did see the whip of a tail. The light was such that it was hard to see. Rain was coming and the overcast didn't help matters right before quitting time. 4 days left on this property. The rubbing bush is dead center I don't think he is the only buck to rub this bush Dang, if I can just get focus!!! ruttinbuc
It was quite warm this morning, but it didn't stop the buck that I passed a few weeks ago from hounding the doe. Last night's action was near the field beyond the treeline. I moved a stand to just left of the tractor lane. This is where the six point was "fighting" the bushes. I stopped on my way from pulling a stand and looking for a spot. Not a good tree close to this love nest! What is wrong with this picture? Found this guy a long way from a road. The only thing visibly wrong is a broken leg.
