Buying a new gun ??????????

I am looking to buy a new gun this year and with all the new stuff that everyone is comeing out with at high quality with a small price tag it is hard to make up my mind.

I have been looking at the TC Venture in 25-06, does anyone own or have shot one of these guns? The action really feals good, the best I have seen in a low cost rifle. The only thing that worries me is the nylon clip.

No experience with the T/C, but on the subject of the magazine, think about this. A lot of AR mags are made from non-metallic materials and they will take a beatin' and keep on cycling.

Im actually going to go the other way on this. I really liked the looks of the Mossberg 4x4 when it came out. I picked one up and looked it over at Academy. The clip was plastic. Later reading on them I found a lot of people that were talking smack about them because the clips are cheap.

Do you have to have the bottom ejection Dwin? If not and youre looking for a cheap rifle keep in mind the Mossberg ATR the Stevens line. The Stevens is the same basic gun as the Savage with Fewer frills. They shoot good but only eject from the top (adl). Buy the cheaper round and buy a large scope for it so you can take advantage of the .25-06 cartridge itself.

I don't have any experience with that rifle, I've heard that they're a good gun though. I do have a .25-06 though, in a Ruger M77 MK-II, love the gun, awesome flat shooting caliber. Can't go wrong with a .25-06.

Not a cheap one just a quality gun worth the money. Only thing is not all the high quality rufles offer a 25-06cal, like the TC ICON. I will either go with the TC Venture with stainless fluted barrel which isn't cheap anyhow, or a Remington 700 XHR. And still may go with the Savage 111 package which is what I had before, that got stolen. The venture is a sweet fealing gun and as always is garanteed to shoot a 1"MOA at 100yards and comes with factory installed bases. And the Mossberg 4x4 with muzzle brake in 25-06 isn't even listed as in production yet on thier websight.

For me if I am going to spend $500 to $1000 I want to make sure it can shoot as good as I can, and yes I am a darn good shot.

I've two TC Venture rifles. One in 300 win mag and another in 270 win. They both shoot very well. The 300 likes to shoot one hole groups at 100 yards with the Barnes Tipped Triple Shock Boattail in 168 grain. The 270 shoots under an inch with my 110 grain Barnes TTSB. ( have yet to try any other load so it may shoot even better) They never move point of impact as they heat up and from week to week they stay zeroed. They come from the factory with a very nice trigger and weaver mount bases. They sell for about $450.00 and if you check on the TC website there is a $50.00 rebate on them until Nov.,30th.

I bought a new marlin xl7 back at the first of the year and had not shot it until a few days ago. I am very pleased with this rifle and the way it shoots,you can get them for 300$ brand new and the come with bases and marlins version if the acutrigger,it can be adjusted. I can't wait to see about putting a deer on the ground with this gun and see how it works. I bout the 270 win and went with the 130 grain win power max bonded bullets,topped it with a 3x9x40 pentax gameseaker,seems like it's gonna be a good combo.

I have a new TC ICON which comes with a nylon or plastic magazine also. At first I was a little apprehensive but after some thought and looking, I came to a conclusion. In todays world plastics are not necessarilly cheap. The mag. is well built and very strong. It will not rust, is very quiet,and fits well into the receiver. The single stack feeds flawlessly. I think this is more of space age thinking we haven't been ready to accept.

There are a lot of lower priced guns out there. Savage is one of the first to come to mind. I have a 22-250 I would go to war with. Mossberg never made a bad shooting rifle. Remington makes a lower priced line of excellent shooters and the list goes on and on.

I would handle as many as possible and choose the one which suits you best. Caliber aside, it is the feel that will get the confidence up and the job done.

I heard the silencer is basically useless because most of the sound comes from the compression chamber, is this true? 
Yes, that's true. The Gamo Whisper is no more quiet than the average, medium power spring piston rifle.

I own a Venture .308 and I can say that it is very accurate. It has a decent trigger also.

Don't have any experience with the TC Venture, but I can tell you about these.

 The  Savage Axis and Ruger American are surprising rifles. I never considered a Savage Axis in .223. Won it in a raffle. Made a few improvements to it and I am really happy with with accuracy it delivers. Home made trigger job, cut 1.5 rings off the trigger spring. Polished it up with some flitz and it is a 3lb trigger now. Changed the stock, put on a Boyds and good rings and glass. It looks good and shoots good. I am a Axis believer.

I also have the Mossberg MVP in 5.56. Accurate rifle. Looks nice out of box, pretty stock, nice matte finish, fluted bbl. and trigger is adjustable. Only thing I hate is the mag slop it has. Need to hold mag up from bottom for bolt to reliably grab cartridge.  Mag slop is the negative in this rifle.

 

Now for the Ruger American Ranch in 300 Black out. Smooth bolt, nice finish, accurate, good trigger, threaded bbl for cans. Just the stock feels cheap and crappy like the original plastic Savage one did. Which is why I replaced it.

The Axis is the least expensive of the aforementioned rifles. But with what I put into it, its in the same league as the others.

You can't go wrong with any of the three rifles I just mentioned.
