RangerClay
Saturday was our northern New York rifle opener. I get to go to hunting camp which is a real highlight for me. There is all of the excitement and anticipation that come with an opening. On this particular opener I got to my stand late and it was daylight, I usually arrive in the dark. Anyway, I arrived at my ladder stand, put on my HSS vest and started up the ladder. It was then that something caught my eye. There was a gap where the platform is attached to the ladder, I could see it against the sky. I start to look more closely and I discover that my stand has been sabotaged . One bolt was removed and the other was unscrewed to the very end. So if I had put my weight on the platform, it would have collasped. I stood there in dismay that someone set me up to take a fall. Then I thought, someone set me up to possibly die . This loser had to bring tools because these stands go together with lock nuts. I know the work wasn't done by some PETA freak, they don't make around here, it was another hunter, probably some trespasser I have kicked off over the years. Needless to say it was not a very pleasent opening day. I moved to a new spot and set-up but my head wasn't really in the hunt. So I made sure to say thanks to the Big Guy for making me late for me stand and made the best of the rest of the morning. Everyone! Check your stand when you climb! If they can find my stand in the middle of no-where in the Adirondacks, they can find your stand too. woolybear
That's friggin nuts. You sure you didn't walk up on someone in the process of stealing your stand? Glad all ended without injury or worse. Hard to believe there's anyone out there that would try to purposely put someone in such a dangerous position but I could be wrong.

NS whitetail
I hope that you find the SOB that did it  reminds me of two years ago when someone threw a whole load of roofing nails, screws and spikes in the place where I park my truck, guess they wanted to see me with four flats

RangerClay
what a low shot. there are sure some crumbs in this world. thank you, lord, for preventing a disaster. joe, i think you need to make a police report. there may just be others out there. unlike you, i suspect the peta people. I'll call the DEC tomorrow and see what they have to say. Its wasn't PETA. This stand is so far out in the middle of no-where, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. I'm thinking it was a trespasser I kicked off a couple years ago. I let him off with a warning and in turn he does this crap.
mossyhorn
Some people man. If they cant steal it might as well make it to were you cant use it. Its a shame there are other hunters out there that do this kind of stuff. Gives us all a bad name. Hope you find out who did it and be safe out there. Adjam5
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Joe. Stuff like that makes me quite angry also. Guess you never know. Hope you knock the big one down despite the sabotage.
Shaun_300
Sorry to hear that Joe! Man what a kick in the shorts first thing opening morning. Just glad you seen it before you hit the seat! Could have been real bad. Unfortunately there's probably not much you can do, or anyone you report it to either. GWSmith
Glad your OK Joe...Hope you catch them on camera if they ever try it again! Sounds like it's time for a Lifeline and Prussic knot too!
ruttinbuc
There are some very crummy people in this world. I'd make it a mission to get the guy responsible for something like this. I'd file a report with the DEC and the local police for an attempt on your life. This goes beyond the scum who steal stands and cameras. Texan_Til_I_Die
Yep, get pics and file a report with the authorities. Might think about hiding a trailcam somewhere close by and see if you can catch the scumbag.
dbHunterNY
I saw you posted this on facebook Joe. Thank God you didn't climb up there. Stealing is one thing, but you've got to be plain stupid and ignorant or cold blooded to mess with a hunter's stand like that. Maybe you could setup a camera high up somehow, i don't know. whoever did it, PETA or not, should be put on trial. i doubt you'll know who did it. i hope it was a one time thought and they didn't do it to someone else who isn't so observant. stcif
The only thing that would have made it o.k. is if you found the guy lying at the bottom of your stand after he fell trying to sabotage it. Kidding aside, I have heard of stands being stolen, but never this. I guess it shouldn't suprise us as people do the craziest, worst things imaginable to one another. Glad you caught it Joe. Another thing to think of.
redkneck
Unreal Joe! I've had them stolen, but nothing like that. Good thing you didn't hop onto it for sure.
