im thinking about gettting an extension tube for my 3.5 inch 870 for snow goose season

i want to get the 10 round model though instead of the regular 7 round model. cabelas has them and its not that much more

any of u ever use the 10 round one. i would think the spring would have to be really long and might wear out easy

Re: extension tube for 870

Are you that bad of a shot that you need 10 chances at a goose? Once you shoot the 3rd shot the flock is out of range anyway.

Choosing the 7 round over the 10 round extension because of the shorter spring is not a valid argument. If one will wear out the other will wear out. The springs are designed to work in each situation. The magazine length is determined by the barrel length. TacStar recommends:

7 shot extension – 18" barrel

8 shot extension – 20" barrel

10 shot extension – 26" barrel

Remember that you will not have an additional 7 or 10 shots. It increases capacity to a total of 7 or 10 shots. Also the ammo length will determine what your total capacity is. You won't be able to hold 10 rounds of 3.5" ammo. This will take a tube that is 30" just for the ammo. This is because shotgun ammo is measured as empty cartridges. Loaded shotgun ammo is about 3/8"-1/2" shorter than stated on the box.

Another thing to keep in mind is the added weight. Adding a long magazine tube adds weight way out there and makes the gun handle totally different when you are swinging on the target.

What state do you hunt?

Nice!!! i learned something, When i first read this i was wondering how long a barrel a guy would would need to hold 15 shells. I have always plugged any of my pumps or auto's. In the 13 years i have hunted i can never remember standing there wishing i had that 5 shot let alone 8th. Too be honest with only a two geese limit here in ohio, I've hardly had any reason to have more than the two on my citori.

I heard that CH. Typically, for hunting any migratory birds in the USA the law says you have to have the gun plugged for a max of 3 shots anyhow. Some states are having spring seasons for snows and are relaxing some of the regs.

I dont doubt the legalityof it at all there gooseman, snow goose hunting is something else. I just couldnt imagine blasting off 8 shots at birds, much differant than here.

I dont know how to offset the balance of the gun, maybe some lead tape back on the recoil pad?? or sink some lead slugs into the stock??

I'm shure AJ can help more.
