Unusual mount I just finished

In all honesty, I think the neck looks unnatural (don't know that a neck could bend that much), and I don't like the arrow, personally.

Yep, thought the same thing. Neck is too long looking with that particular deer and pose, almost gooselike. Have seen deer reach back similarly to lick themselves plenty of times, and have also looked at mounts in that same pose that did not look quite so unnatural.

Could just be the pics, but also thought the eye detail in your other pics in the taxidermy room made the eyes look maybe just a little sleepy.

I have to agree with that. It's a pretty hard bend. The form didn't look like that in the catalog. Also, the nose was oversize and the eye sockets were undersized. I'll never use another form by that particular supplier again. Hanging on the wall, the neck doesn't look nearly so long, but still, I don't like it. As far as the eyes looking sleepy, that has to be the angle of the pictures.

Just trying to mix it up a little and try some new things.

+1

Almost "swan-like". Don't care for the arrow either. Just thinking to myself, the only way I can imagine an arrow looking decent would be to have it worked into a full body mount somehow, maybe even ducking one, that would be cool.

The reason i think the neck looks so unreal is because it comes off the shoulders straight and then they try to make the whole turn at the top of the neck. As far as the arrow, I don't like it. Sorry.

Don't sweat it. I posted it on here to get some honest opinions. If people don't like it, I need to know. There are only so many semi-sneak and upright mounts I can do without wanting to try something new.

Amen to that!!

I personally don't like the arrow....The idea above about one ducking an arrow would be cool....but man that would be a lot of work and space needed...

As far as the neck comments go I think it is ok........His neck is gonna look longer than normal since the buck is stretching so far....

I am not a taxidermist but I have mounted a few deer with some help of a real taxidermist.

Here is one I did for my dad with a similar grooming look.....

It's always good to be looking for new ideas. I'm with the rest though on the neck looking a little strange. Soon as I seen this I noticed the neck,it just popped out at me. As far as the quality it looks like you do some good work.

I appreciate your comments. Luckily, I mounted the deer so that I could remove the arrow if no one liked it.

I like that someone tried something different! It's not something that I would choose but it's not for me.

I tell you this..if the Customer asks for that, and since they are the ones paying, your their favorite Taxidermist!!!

Just because I think it's interesting I'd love to see what one would look like with the arrow behind the shoulder, full body, laying on the ground like you found it when you walked up on it the first time..plants, leaves, and everything. Thats just for the first or bottom layer! The top layer would have an etched glass of the hunter kneeling on one knee and praying. The entire mount is a large coffee table with the buck on the bottom layer.

I know I would be better off investing in a couple hundred acres for the cost of what that mount would end up being...lol...but it is nice to think about.
