Muleyman
What size of bucks are you guys holdin off for this year. Last year was my first year of hunting and my buck scored only like 97 lol. But I couldnt get a whitetail with bow but with Me and my brother both tagged out on the first day of rifle last year. So this year I am gonna hold off for somethin around the 140 size. Just thought Id ask
wtnhunt
Hoping to hold out for a 3.5 year old or older buck. Antlers here realistically at this point in time with the excessive pressure and liberal limits it is pretty unlikely that we are going to see something in the 140+ range, so basically looking for something past its ears and 4 or more pts to a side. From what we have seen of trail cam pics this year, chances of me even taking a buck this year are probably pretty slim.
Ethan Givan
Looking for a mature buck here. When Im bow hunting Im looking for a buck that will make P&Y. When gun hunting I will be looking for a buck thats 130+. Now if I havent killed a buck, and it comes down to the last week of season then I might have to drop the hammer on a nice buck that would fall short. I will not shoot a young buck though. rhine16
I'm looking for one that's 4.5 yrs old... Bow hunting I try to hold for 115 and gun 125 but it just really depends on the deer.
TN Bucknasty
Hoping to hold out for a 3.5 year old or older buck. From what we have seen of trail cam pics this year, chances of me even taking a buck this year are probably pretty slim. I can say pretty much the same thing as far as the rest of my Tennessee season goes. I've already killed a pair of 3.5 year olds that I watched all summer. I'm sure you boys from outside the southeast would be less than impressed with the racks. I'm a doe away from reaching my management goals. When people start blasting, I might see a new shooter once or twice this year, but who knows. I'm going up to KS this weekend to scout and hang stands. Then I'll go back in mid- November. At home, I'll usually hunt one deer at a time until I kill it, but since I'm not going to be spending just a whole lot of time up there, I'm just looking for something 4.5 years old, or 3.5 if I get desperate. In December, I'll do some hunting in South Central Mississippi. The place I hunt there is terrible. I always hold out for a 3.5 year old, but realistically, I know the odds are slim with the extreme hunting pressure. By then, I'm just spending time in the woods. Texan_Til_I_Die
Mature - score isn't very important. I have passed quite a few 140'ish bucks over the past few seasons because they still had some growing to do.
need2hunt
Not sure... buttons and yearlings are getting passed for sure... after that we'll see
Shaun_300
Not too concerned about size, as long as it's not a fawn. I have a week to hunt and that's it. So if something steps out with bone on its head it's going down.
Rhino
Mature bucks (4.5 or older) here in MS. Preferably just the ones that make my personal cut for wall hangers and euro mounts. I know of at least 5 bucks so far on our place that make my personal wall hanger cut. I always locate new mature bucks as we get closer to our rut (mid to late December). I've also been surprised with big ones that show up while I'm hunting that have never been seen or caught on a trail cam. While in KS I'll also stick with mature bucks too but there is an antler size limit on the private property I hunt. All other bucks will get a pass. The property I'm hunting has a 140 minimum on 8's, 145 on 9's, and 150 or better for 10 point or better bucks. I'm looking for those 150+ class matuire bucks while I'm bowhunting there. arrow32
Well I'm going for a 3.5 year old buck. Doe heck I just shoot em. Horns around here aren't much there are some really nice bucks and thats what I always end up holding out for every year and I've shot one good buck a nice 9pt that in a good situation should have been passed on. But that being said I'm holding out for something 3.5 year range hoping to get a big buck I know there are a few wondering around on the farms I'm hunting. Heck a deer that would score 97 would be great with a bow or rifle around here.
Tominator
Depends on the property I'm hunting. Generally, I'd say a mature deer that scores at least 125. On a couple properties though, 125 won't cut it, and on those properties, a deer better score at least 135 or better.

A deer that's 4.5 years old should be called the ghost because deer around here are on hit lists at 2.5 yrs old. :bang:
Muleyman
Rifle season starts for me on Nov.15th and I havent been seein much good bucks yet. The rut hasnt quite hit yet so those mature bucks arent out much yet. So once the rut hits Ill make more of a decission on what kind of deer I am gonna take. doubledrop
140 class and better. I have harvested 6 bucks 120-129 and 4 bucks 130-138, so 140 is my minimum. I have passed several 120-125 inch bucks this year. if these 2.5 year old bucks dont get taken this year next year will look real good. bucknut
Iam holding out for a 160+ or a narly old mature buck with lots of character..
buckee
I always just try to hold out for a mature deer, whether it be doe or buck. Antlers size doesn't matter to me, because for the most part genetics is poor where we hunt, except for the odd deer that shows up.
coles
I videoed some bucks this summer that will go into the 160" range so of course im holding out for one of those but towards the end of the season, i will shoot a smaller buck if he is respectable. I wont shoot a young buck though.

sureshot
first 2 weeks or so it will be a heavy 160 class, not a young 160 like is runnign south were I bowhunted, after that it will be a mature deer or a unique deer, score is bull in my eyes I just like a big framed deer, carson I know were 2 are so be nice to me lol!!! superguide
It all depends on the hunting situation-I'm more proud of an old 5x4 that I almost froze to death hunting than I am of a 'lucky' 160 plus that I shot just because it was nice day to sit on the sunny side of a spruce tree. I like to shoot those big heavy bucks on the downhill side but i guess I'd shoot a pretty 180 too lol. When it comes to Mulie's I try and get at least a 180 so far I've been lucky that way. lil hunter
I won't be home to deer hunt until the very last day of Muzzleloader season. If I see a deer thats any bigger than my dog, it's gettin shot. I haven't killed one in a few years and I want that streak to end!
