i just found out im getting laid off in jan. they will not be calling anyone back at all. the new company that bought us in may has either lost of funneled off all of our shrink bag buisness in just 5 months. thats 196 millon bags in 2009 and 2011.. 0 bags.

the actual date im getting laid off wont be until jan 30th. i can collect unemployment and combined with that and my healthy savings i will be fine until june or so. luckily i do not have any debts and my truck is almost paid off. its a good thing i planned for this.

i actually have 2 leads on possible maintenance mechanic jobs after day 1.

this really sucks...:(

I have never known a single person who was laid off that didn't end up better off and happier for it--but while it is happening, it sucks.

I know, I've been there done that with a four year old, a pregnant wife, and having just came back from vacation (having blown a wad of money).

I now work from home 100% of the time, make the same money, and have little stress compared to enormous stress levels. Working from home also allows my wife to work.

I feel your pain, Tony! I have been off for quite awhile in search of a livable wage. I'll have to get something soon as the bite is getting bigger. I have no regrets. I got to do quite a bit in the time I've been off. I would never have been able to otherwise. At least you see it coming. I was knocked off my feet there for awhile. You will be OK.

boy, do i ever disagree. i know plenty of laid off folks, including mike (ruttinbuck) who were laid off and not better off. in fact, there are over 5 million laid off workers today who may disagree with you.

sorry to hear this, tony. but with your experience i think you have a good shot at another job. good luck.

That's fine, I would argue that those people's journey isn't complete.

When I was laid off, I would have agreed with you up and to the point where I became re-employed. It's a different perspective when you are still unemployed vs. when you get hired again and life becomes good again. So I would say hang in there for all those still unemployed.

Having said that, what's going on today is extraordinary and I hope that when the election happens next week businesses will feel free to begin spending again, having the socialist takeover of America over.
