birdhunter39
I need to ask a question I found out Friday at work that 90% of us employees are going to take a $ 6.00 pay cut . but in our union contract it states that we have a choice of either take the pay cut and keep our health insurance ( I'm single no kids ) or collect unemployment . either choice i take I'll make near the same amount plus or minus a few dollars , i need to give my answer on Monday . I don't see this place lasting no more then 2 years tops , our union contract ends 12-31-2011 . I also should mention that i just came off unemployment back in July of this year , with a month and a half off . any advice would be helpful thank you

TBow
I have found that most people I know, are employed in their current job, due mostly to neccessity, rather than in a job that they actually enjoy doing. And many times they complain about their jobs, or circumstances involving their position such as no social interactions with fellow workers. How many times have you heard someone say that they wished they had another job that they actually enjoyed, but just keep on plodding along in the same old rut they believe themselves to be in as there's some level of security with knowing you have a paycheque still coming in. It's the uncertainty of not knowing if you can actually put food on the table and pay the rent, that keeps most of us right where we are. The only time they find the incentive to go out and look for other employment that may be suited to what they want, is when they have lost the one they have now. In today's market place and in the environment of the current world economic situation we now find ourselves in, my take on leaving a position that's paying the bills is, "keep the job". However, if you find yourself in a job you don't really like, that in itself should be the wakeup call to put a fire under your butt and get looking for something better....while you're still working. Don't wait until you'll ultimately get laid off anyways to light that fire. You're fortunate in that you're single with no worries about a family to feed and put a roof over their heads, so your options are certainly more open, than a family man's or woman's. Keep the job, but expand your visions as to where you see yourself in another 10, 20 or 30 years. Come up with a plan that will see you in a place that will put a smile on your face, and not the one that will see you saying, "Man I hate my job!". Life is too short. Best of luck whatever your decision. TBow

swohiodave
Keep your job with benefits and start looking for a new one. That is the problem now, we have too many people who could work going on unemployment.
ruttinbuc
Keep your job with benefits and start looking for a new one. That is the problem now, we have too many people who could work going on unemployment. Don't know what you are trying to say there, but most people are unemployed through no fault of their own. People with masters degrees were let go who can't find jobs in their fields. If you have a job keep it and hope to find something else if you really need change.
