Least Favorite Type

We all talk about what thrills us the most on hunts, what type of animals we like to hunt, etc. I got to thinking (scary.....I know) about the different species of animals I've seen folks on here harvest and the thought came to my mind, "What type of hunting is your least favorite?"

So........what type of hunting is your least favorite?

Mine would be turkey. I've tried it but just don't have the desire to hunt them like I do deer or hogs (which are my top 2 favorite).

Guess I could have asked it this way: What type of hunting have you done in the past that turned out not to your liking?

......sheesh, some people.

Oh, in that case...........

:D

Squirrel hunting. It now coincides with dove hunting which I really enjoy, and I don't care for the taste of squirrels.

I enjoy duck and goose hunting, but I don't enjoy the taste of those either, so I pretty much don't do that anymore either.

My least favorite is without a doubt bowhunting for bear. Did it once and swore I'd never do it again. The weather conditions had something to do with it. We were hunting in Maine in September when a heat wave went through. 4 out of the 5 days we hunted, record high temps were set. 2 bears were killed late on the 1st day and nobody saw one after that. The wilderness camp wasn't pleasant at all for hot weather either. That was my 1st and only experience with an indoor propane toilet where you burned the crap after it was deposited. I'll never forget the terrible odor of it burning. In a nutshell...I was miserable. The best thing about that bowhunt was leaving!

About the only thing I hunt anymore is deer with the liberal seasons that overlap everything else. Since I filled my buck tag for the permit archery season I'll be doing some rabbit and pheasant hunting. Our club also opened up the whole property to small game which is a plus.

I don't have a least favorite. It's all good. I would like to get to hunt mule deer and elk one day.

Longview?

That was one Ashley but not the one I was referring to. Also, not the Ashley in Boone, NC. One out here. I think I just need to stay away from the "A" names. In the last year with the 3 Ashleys, Allison, Abby and Alisha, They are all crazy and drama needing psychos. I am way glad I am so laid back and dont really care about all that hogwash. I need a TV show.

Hogs. We've got so darn many of them they fall into the same category as mosquitoes and fire ants. I killed 2 over the weekend while bow hunting and haven't even bothered to mention it to anyone until now.

I want to kill some hogs!

I am jealous that you can shoot them, but not jealous that you have them on your land.

I hear ya! We have the same problem. They're #2 on my list of things I don't care to hunt for the same reason. So far this year, I'm 4 for 6 on arrows flung at hogs. I'm not trying to hunt them, I'm trying to deer hunt but I've seen more than my share so far this year. I only mentioned the big pig I killed that won a hog pot on our place a few weeks ago till now. They are a critter that is easy to hate if you have them, especially when it comes time to cut and plant food plots and you're doing the work.

I've never hunted turkeys but for some reason I don't have the interest in it. I should just get out there and try it, I'm sure I'd like it. At first thought it doesn't really turn my crank though.

That's why why you don't like it. If you ever tried it.................you'd be forever an addict. Trust me.

I can honestly say I don't have much interest in squirrel hunting. Not enough challenge in it for me, I guess. Kinda like bass fishing. But if you're into it......hey.......I'm all for ya!

I like hunting pretty much anything, but I'll say that the one that I'm not as excited or enthused to hunt is bears. I've only really hunted them a few times, but it was over bait, which I didn't place. One of the things that I like about hunting most species, is that I am the one who carries out all of the activities with regards to the actual hunt. Whenever I do the scouting, calling, setting up stands, spot and stalk, or whatever, and not just take the shot, I tend to have a greater sense being a part of the experience. In bear hunting, I'm not able to be there to scout, place stands, do the baiting for a month or so, I'm just there to take the shot, basically while watching a pile of food scraps or garbage for hours at a time. And if it's spring bear hunting, then I have to contend with a ton of black flies and/or mosquitos. I HATE BUGS!

If I lived in an area where there were bears and could do all the work myself, I might have a better interest in bear hunting, but I have to rely on others to do all the work for me if baiting is the preferred method. If I was on the west coast where the spot and stalk method is used frequently, I might have a better feel for taking on the 'ol bruins, but alas, I's is an easterner.

Can't think of anything that I've hunted and didn't enjoy hunting. I've never hunted turkeys but for some reason I don't have the interest in it. I should just get out there and try it, I'm sure I'd like it. At first thought it doesn't really turn my crank though.

Agreed. Once you have your first bird gobble 20 feet from you, you will be hooked. Me, my hands start to shake like there is a 12 point buck in front of me.

I like to hunt everything. Anytime I am in the outdoors, it's quality time.

However there was a hunt I will NOT do over again. A friend of mine called me up one day and asked if I wanted to go on a pheasant and quail hunt. I said yes without hestitation since we don't have quail here in New York. We arrived at this place near Cooperstown and got suited up. We then gathered together (about 10 of us) for a briefing and designate where each group would hunt. It was then that I watched a 4 wheeler drive up the hill and toss the birds out of a box. Yep, a box no wild birds or recently released birds on this hunt. And the kicker, the so-called group leader instructed us to shoot any hawks (VERY illegal) that we saw because they would eat THEIR precious birds. I had not even started hunting yet and I was not having fun. So after the briefing we went hunting. These sort-of tame pheasants and quail would not fly or flush so we had to shoot them off the ground or off tree branches....Borrrrrring! I shot one quail and a pheasant early then just enjoyed a nice walk. I could not wait to get home. I told Jim never to invite me again.

Ducks, Don't find anything interesting in sitting in a cold blind to shoot a bird that tastes like fish. Doesn't seem like much of a challenge either. Anyone that can shoot and sit can hunt ducks. Might just as well shoot a round of skeet.

With upland birds you are at least out there walking around and it takes a lot more skill on the part of the dog than just fetch and retrieve. I know a lot of you enjoy it. I just don't get it.

Dove hunting, hands down. Opening day down here it's typically in the upper 80's with lots of humidity, not a lot of birds flying, and I'm a terrible shot. On top of that, it's more of a social gathering, where a lot of yuppies show up in their Hummers with there $5000 over-and-unders without a speck of gunpowder on them, wearing L.L. Bean or Orvis head to toe. Is that enough?
