The Kid
so today while checking my trail cam I walked over the hill in our field and saw a buck and a doe, I stuck out of there and got up on our barn which is where I do all of my scouting and I watched him he bedded down right next to the edge of the field and watched her as she fed, well tonight i had class so I just got out in time to do some scouting and saw what I think might have been the same doe but not sure and a nice buck around 120 he didn't chase her but rather just standed right by her and followed her every move,, so my million dollar question is what does this mean??? I've heard that bucks can tell if a doe is coming into heat?? is that what these bucks are doing
Ravin R10 man
it's possible she is close to heat..but if he isnt doggin her every step Id say no
ruttinbuc
This is the classic lockdown. The buck is locked up with this doe and will follow her wherever she goes. He knows he will get lucky soon. :smoke:
Stinger-Hunter
Looks like ol' Charlie Alsheimer was a little off. If the bucks are this late into the "chase phase" then the late rut may be a myth. Michigan isn't that far north. Not far enough to be 3.5 weeks early. Ol' Charlie needs to check his Moon-0-meter. If you go back and read ol' Charlie's predictions, he predicted a "trickle" rut from late October to the real rut 3rd week of November. It's clear to me, I agree with Mike, that deer is locked in on that doe, and if he doesn't get run off by something bigger, he might get lucky. :smoke:

ruttinbuc
And the other thing is that this doe will save that buck's butt more times than not. While he is like us men, out of their mind, in the presence of a "hot" woman the doe will not miss a trick and keep him out of any danger!
