92xj
Corey's feeling a little bit better today about the hunt. Deer are moving earlier than before and he has 5 does in front of him at 300 yards and they are constantly looking back into the timber, hopefully that means there are some bucks in there, waiting to come out. 92xj
This evening ended with around 30 deer in the bottom he was looking over. At least 2 small forkhorns. Most of the deer came out right at last shooting light and he could not tell what they were. Corey will be getting out early before they head back to bed to see if he cant catch one of the big boys. Dawg
Well this trip ended with all 10 guys in camp tagging out but not without struggling to get on deer the whole time. This year was nothing compared to last year. The milder temps allowed the deer to stay in the mountains and made hunting the corn and alfalfa fields very hard. After the second day of hunting I was getting a bit bummed. It wasn't until the last 2 days of the trip that cold weather moved in and the deer started moving. It all paid off in the end when I managed to take the small 2x3 on the last morning hunt. I shot it in 15 degree weather at 225 yards. The longest shot I've ever made. The mountain lion incident helped turn the trip into one to remember. Kevin went up the side of the canyon to do some reading. As he was walking he noticed a few does so he took out his cell phone to take some pictures. As he squatted to get a better look at the deer, a mountain lion pounced on the bigger doe. The video below is Kevin (guy in green shirt) telling the story to Chad (guy in blue shirt) who wasn't at camp when it all went down. Turn your speakers up, there's parts that are a bit hard to hear. ***WARNING*** This video contains a few curse words. If you are offended by crude language please do not watch.
