It's pretty well documented that some of the Sharps calibers could be very accurate at 1000 yards. And there's also documentation that it could reach out and touch someone at 1500 yards, (Billy Dixon). This Buffalo hunt was with a Sharps 45-70 which is considered not a real long range caliber compared to the improved 45-70-500. I'm estimating this shot taken would be between 125 to 150 yards, just a guess. And remember they were shooting a single shot rifle so they knew the importance of shot placement. One of the most famous Sharps shooters was Billy Dixon.
