AvonLKHunter
Just got back from Gurnsey County and after hunting for 3 days I can tell you the rut is a week or two away. We did not see any sign of rut activity and it was almost like hunting in the middle of October when all the deer are nocturnal. Not to many rubs or scrapes either, usually we are loaded after halloween. Anyone else in ohio having any luck. Cant wait for next weekend now. Tominator
To be quite honest, I think Charlie Alsheimer is spot on so far. Little flurry of activity October 22-23, then nothing, and just in the last few days big deer are starting to cruise, grunt, chase, scrape, etc. Ohiobucks' boss shot a 153 last night in Morrow county, I'm hearing, partly seeing at least one buck in Licking county cruising around grunting and chasing like a fool, so I think the does are starting to "trickle" into estrous. Planning on taking my decoy out tonight to see what happens.
Ethan Givan
Im not in Ohio but our rut is close to the same time. Saw small bucks chasing and sparring last part of October, even rattled and grunted in a couple. Went this morning and saw 6-7 does and no bucks. Would have thought a buck would have been checking them at some point but I never saw one. I have seen an increase in the scrape activity in the last week. I dont think the does are coming in yet, so I dont think the big boys are up and moving too well. Our gun season starts this coming weekend Nov. 13th and I think it might hit the rut perfect this year.
pointing_dogs_rule
Not that it helps you in Ohio, however, bucks are standing in the middle if the fields tending the does. Rut is definitely here in Iowa. Good luck to all the dog
Tominator
Dropped my daughter off at a friend's house just now, and saw 3 standing out in the middle of a field. Couldn't tell what they were. Small game season opened up yesterday, so a lot of deer are probably going to be bumped along today.
AvonLKHunter
We saw about 8 doe and they were all alone. Here in Avon Lake the bucks are tending the does. Not sure what the difference is. Only 140 miles north of my property. Hope its rockin next weekend.

AvonLKHunter
Just dont think its starting yet. It is not going to explode, think it will just be a slow rut with the does all coming in at different times. Got my fingers crossed headed to South East Ohio next Sunday fror a three day hunt. I think you are right. Rink said they saw a lot of little guys. Shawn witnessed a fight, and his buddy Randy (buckeyenut) arrowed an 8pt last night. If Randy shot an 8, it's probably a nice buck. I haven't seen pictures yet. They were going to trail it this morning. Shawn and Randy are hunting the same farm.

bucknut
The rut is just about to really kick into high gear up here in Saskatchewan. Almost hit a 140-150" buck on the way to work today chasing a doe across the highway
