Getting Fed Up

Ever just get so aggravated with bow hunting that you just want to hang it up? I'm pretty good about keeping a close eye on my bow to make sure everything is in order. Still, I can't win for losing. I was drawing earlier this year and out of nowhere, my peep site busted. Yesterday evening, I took some junk arrows to the stand and shot an armadillo and a field rat early. Then right before dark, a doe came out. I drew and shot and when I did, I saw something black go flying and the arrow hit her in the neck. A screw had gone flying off of my whisker biscuit and my shot was terrible. I'm supposed to leave Friday for KS, and I hate to leave on a bad note.

So far, I've shot 9 with my bow this year, and that's the first one that has been messed up. I guess as much as I shoot, things are bound to mess up sooner or later. I know I'll still keep on going, but it's mighty frustrating. I'm gonna have a bow smith check the thing out from end to end tonight so I'm not worried about it on my big trip.

This year here at home is not off to a great start by any means, in the past 5 years or so I have pretty well only killed one deer a year since my wife and daughter also hunt our small farm. Too many people around us shooting everything they see for me to try to fill my limits and take advantage of the insane doe limits here. Get way more out of videoing my kids hunts at this stage.

Went from seeing no deer at all during the archery season to now seeing plenty of little bucks. Problems with poachers now, pretty frustrating.

Well this year at the start of the season I was questioning my ability to hunt. This year in general just sucks for me. I don't have the same amount of time to hunt that I normally do and at first I wasn't seeing hardly any deer out of my stands if any. Now its all coming together slowly by just trying to stay positive.

For myself its come down to I know what to do and how to do it I just have to believe in my setups that I have out. Thats been my thing this year.

Yeah, I don't know if the hunting pressure is this bad just where we live, or if things are like this everywhere. I've been killing a few does on the MS side of the line for a farmer. I hate to kill many in TN anymore because of the way a few people are slaughtering them. I'm sure when my son gets old enough to go, I'll probably think the same way that you do about it.

At times I get frustrated but not fed up with bowhunting. You're experience would fall into something I'd call frustrating...not fed up. Can't see you being fed up with bowhunting after smacking 9 so far this year. I understand it's a bummer to have a malfunction happen right before you head to KS. Malfunctions happen to just about everyone from time to time. It's happened twice to me while I was out of state bowhunting whitetail in Iowa and elk in New Mexico. That's why I always carry a backup bow whenever I hit the road. I'll never understand why some bowhunters sell their old bows when they buy a new one instead of keeping it for a backup. It's cheap insurance when you're in the middle of nowhere bowhunting and your hunting time is limited.

Good luck in KS. I'm heading that way Saturday to hunt for a week too. A buddy sent me a text the other day and based on his sightings up that way he said our timing should be hitting it right.

You got that right, Al! There were times of frustration for me over the years but I never had thoughts of giving it up except maybe a time or two after losing a deer. Maybe it would be best to take a break for awhile and get things in order for your trip. 9 is a fair number of deer in the book. I'd give it a rest (which you will most assuredly need) and prepare for Kansas.

Keep your spirits hgh. I sometimes get frustrated but it takes on encounter with a bruiser to change all that around. Size is relatives so it doesn't have to be a booner to change your spirits.

Right now what I am struggeling with is that I want to shoot a booner. I have a couple real nice deer but not a book deer. I am passing on a lot of smaller bucks b/c that next buck I shoot I at least want to have a chace of it making the book. I know that the area that I am hunting 1 deer that is a shoe in that goes at least 180 and anther that could be there but I think tops out in the 160s ( I will just have to find our with a tape measurer if he steps out). My point is that gear, trespassers, not seeing the right deer...it is all frustrating.

But deer hunting is a frustrating endeveor where you sit for hours and days with perhaps a pay off of 30 seconds. Keep your chin up b/c everythign will turnaround if you stay in the woods...(and get rid of that whisker bisket) I guess if it is really frustrating you then you could alwasy trade in your bow for a set of golf clubs but then agian you might be frustrated every hole...I know I am.

Good luck.

as they say...$*&! Happens! Only thing I would recommend is to routinely look over your bow for accesories that might be wearing, need adjusted and/or simply replaced. I adjust my equipment and check things over regularly because naturally my bow is going to bumped and banged climbing in and out of treestands and walking in and out of the field. Not sure what type of equipment you use...but for me...I saved the money to get myself better equipment so that I would enjoy my time afield and increase my success. If my equipment is in order...then the blame for any short comings is squarely on my shoulders.

I think they call that HUNTING!!. I lost my first deer this year and was totally sick for days, then to top it off, I used the can call that I have been lugging around for years and had a 130" eight come in on a string. At 15 yards I shoot and hear TWACK, BANG. and the buck runs off. I did not know this buck was part NINJA :ninja: I remember looking at the vitals and how I shot him in the horns is a mystery. Not a drop of blood, shattered arrow and the score is BUCKS 18 FRED 0, dang I do love BOWhunting!!!!
