dbHunterNY
My rangefinder finally came in. It's the new Nikon Riflehunter 1000. I see it's on backorder still from Cabelas though. Regardless, I got mine and I'll be testing it out this weekend. I'll post something up then, but I'm sure it'll perform well.
dbHunterNY
It worked well! As of right now, I can't believe this thing isn't available yet at Cabelas, MidwayUSA, etc. I believe some have gotten them though Cabelas at some point due to reviews existing. It still seems to be on backorder there or unavailable anywhere else. I hunted using the Nikon Riflehunter 1000 this past weekend. It worked flawless for me. I used the first target and distant target modes to range everything from branches to objects through brush or branches. I could change between the two modes quickly by pressing both buttons on top, and the accurate readings came quickly. Readings seemed to be very easy and quick to take out to around 750 yards. After that, you had to had to rest on something and not just hold the rangefinder free handed. I managed to get a few readings just beyond 1200 yards on a rock face. It has angle compensating technology, showing the horizontal distance only when in "Ang" mode. Basically, it worked. Not much to say other than that. The distance displayed was out of the way, but I don't feel it was too high as in some reviews mentioned regarding the Archers Choice Max rangefinder. Also, the display seemed to work with the "active brightness control" by changing the display from black to illuminated orange during low light. I will say that some of the reviews out there on this technology are partially true. When illuminated the internal lamp does create a slightly orange hue to the picture or image. I was still able to clearly see deer out in a field just after dusk. Along with field of view, the light transmission for the optics themselves were as good or better than most rangefinders I've looked through. So when I read a review that a person was unable to see the target with this illuminated display, in my opinion, I think it was too dark for that person to be taking a shot anyway. It doesn't come with a view-thru soft case, but a normal soft case. However, more importantly they gave it a cord loop long enough to go over a shoulder and hang near my rib cage on my opposite side. I could easily lift it up for viewing and let it back down and out of the way to draw my bow. The 6x magnification was a little much for bowhunting, but completely necessary for ranging farther away. I like it better for general use than my other rangefinder which was 4x, but only due to ranging out past 400 or so yards. All in all I say it's a great rangefinder. When they are generally available, I'd take a look at one if you're in the market for a new rangefinder.
