paul23
read on another forum that guys in NY are putting out estrous scents and having success with them. Since bow opens friday in the southern tier, I'm just pondering on the idea. Want some opinions from some more people on this. I know I'll see deer where I am either way but i am intrigued and may have to just see if it would work. What do you guys think?
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early i want to say no! but you never know though. I put some i bought from some scent company out (waiting on wiggles) and a buck came in to rattling, hit that scent and got spooked. But every deer is kinda different, what might not work for some guy might for you! good luck mike
wtnhunt
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early Here I would hold off until at least the beginning of November. From my experience I would say it is still too early here.
muggs
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early I posted a week ago that I was thinking of trying it early, kind of like an experiment. I tried it three times and didn't see any deer, does or bucks. JMO, but I'm going to hold off on it for a couple more weeks.

buckee
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early I look at using estrous scent early this way. Why wait till the mature does on the block start going into estrous before using it. It only decreases your chances of seeing that dominant buck, simply because he may already be busy elsewhere in the woods. Why not be the first doe to go into estrous and get all the bucks in the neighborhood seeking you out. It is a well known fact that bucks are ready to mate long before does actually go into estrous. That's why they start fighting and making scrapes early. My advise is to use estrous scent as early as you like. Be the first doe on the block to go into estrous. The bucks don't have a magic date when they are ready like the does do.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early I think that the colder weather here in IL/IN will make estrous scents a little more believable, but I'm still waiting until the end of Oct. two weeks before shotgun season. It worked for me last year, so might as well try it again. In short, I'm waiting another week or week and a half.

SaskMan
Re: estrous scent seems awfully early Why not??????? If the bucks are scrpaing and doing some sparring they're getting ready. I agree with the post about not waiting for the does to come into it, way harder to lure a buck when they've got a hot doe, I'd say impossible, go for it, what'll it hurt.
